How you'll make an impact:
At Xero, our SRE teams work in two ways. First we develop internal facing products that help other engineering teams operate their systems successfully. Our internal products help by exposing valuable context, by supporting coordination and by making ownership decisions easier. Xero SRE also works to directly support teams operating services in production. We do this via on-call escalation and specialist reliability consulting. 
As a Senior SRE Engineer, you will help to mentor and upskill other members of the team. You’ll make key software architecture decisions and support good practices in the team. You’ll identify opportunities for improvement within SRE and take initiative to adapt and grow our practice. You’ll also work closely with the development and maintenance of our incident response tools. You’ll utilise .NET Core, React, Kubernetes, AWS and more. You will focus on helping to automate and maintain our infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines with infrastructure-as-code solutions. You will also conduct and coach incident and resiliency training to the internal product teams across the business. 

What you'll bring with you:

  • Ability to develop and grow engineers through technical coaching and mentorship.
  • Proficiency in one or more object oriented programming languages
  • Strong understanding of designing and implementing cloud infrastructure solutions using infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, Cloudformation)
  • Ability to rapidly analyse and understand systems built on a wide variety of technologies, languages and platforms.
  • Experience with agile software development methodology including continuous integration and delivery
  • Awareness of Resilience Engineering and Chaos Engineering practices
  • Significant experience being on call and coordinating or responding to incidents
  • Experience with incident analysis and incident reviews (postmortems)
