Investment Engine Technology Department

The Investment Engine Technology team at Bridgewater engineers systems to understand the world.  These systems synthesize and industrialize our global understanding into a hive mind of macroeconomic knowledge which enables us to educate and collaborate with the world’s most influential central banks and policy makers and carefully and strategically manage the world’s most important capital.  Our technologists are engineering highly available, high performing and highly secure cloud platforms and infrastructure which support and scale our investing operations.

 

Research Tech

The goal of the Research department is to fundamentally understand how the global economy works.  Embedded within the Research department is a uniquely talented technology team that builds the tools that allow our macro economists to conduct their research and understand the world’s economies at a level we believe no other firm is capable of.  These tools tackle problems from data ingestion and storage, to data visualizations, to signal creation.

 

Position Responsibilities: 

As a DevOps Engineer you are responsible to work with Software Engineers to bring an operational mindset to each product that is built, released, and supported in the Research Technology department. You are a Software Engineer by trade, but support the DevOps mindset and bring an extremely pragmatic approach to software engineering. You will take highly ambiguous problems and create frameworked approaches to decompose those engineering initiatives while constantly taking into account the scalability, sustainability and security of all products.

You will drive the following responsibilities:

  • Create scalable, reliable, and secure systems using Kubernetes and AWS/Azure cloud services
  • Automation and Improvement of existing technology infrastructure and platforms
  • Contribute to engineering efforts for virtual network and compute infrastructure across both on-prem and multi-cloud environments.
  • Maintain a security mindset during both design and development stages of projects
  • Design, implement, and enforce cloud infrastructure and modern software development best practices in an organization
  • Drive technical and complex projects autonomously
  • Assist and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
  • Provide feedback to your coworkers and engage well with the feedback provided to you
  • Work with technology management to provide infrastructures services across multiple business and engineering verticals within the company

 

Preferred Requirements

  • 10+ years of software development, architecture, design, and operations of complex applications and systems.
  • 3+ years of cloud infrastructure solutions (Kubernetes/EKS/AKS, Security, Storage, Networking, Infra as code, Compute, Serverless Functions, Docker)
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Expertise in continuous testing of cloud infrastructure
  • Go and/or Python software development experience
  • Working Knowledge of Helm (or kustomize / jsonnet) and other Kubernetes tooling
