R3 is revolutionizing the way banking and commercial transactions happen with our distributed ledger technology, Corda.  DLT, aka ‘blockchain’, allows for not only dramatic efficiencies in the way commercial transactions occur but enables new things that haven’t even been dreamed up yet.  We are creating a new future for global commerce.This role of DevOps Engineer is part of “project Rome”, a newly formed team working closely with selected partners to bring their application to market as a service. This exciting project combines the best of Corda based solutions and allows customers to use them in an unapparelled experience. The DevOps Engineer is a pivotal role in the design, implementation and operation of the services R3 offers to its customers.  You will be working in a multidisciplinary team, developing and bringing this new service to market. You will work alongside, and support our Customers, as well as many different teams within R3 – therefore being a team player, having a great personality, a sense of humor, being able to work under pressure, being empathetic towards different cultures, communicating effectively and hitting deadlines are all paramount to enjoying life at R3. You will have a strong technical background in financial services, telecoms or critical infrastructure service provider. You embrace the DevOps Culture. Working with distributed teams and carrying out peer code reviews is second nature.You have a “go getter attitude” by taking proactive approach into fixing issues that appear from continuous improvement changes or you detect them by carrying out day to day tasks.You believe strongly in delivering experiences, not just lines of code. You are focused on the end result for the customer, with a service-led approach, and have a strong background in operating, maintaining and improving services to the highest possible standards.Affinity and, or experience with an Agile way of working and design thinking methodologies will help you excel as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep repositories up to date with software releases within the DevOps software tooling currently used. As well as innovating and driving for changes that will benefit the entire team
  • Collaboration across different teams
  • Driving for infrastructural improvements that can help improve high availability and scalability of existing and new service offerings
  • Owning and advocating the approach of automation first
  • Producing clear operational documentation
  • Delivering on high quality work that meet customer requirements on existing services for other Production department teams such as Business operations, Security. While still being able to drive for improvements of the current process in place.
  • Act as the service champion within delivery squads, advocating for best practices in line with service management methodologies. R3 is undertaking a SOC 2 assessment within the next 9 months.
  • Responsible for pushing for changes both in Development and Operations that are essential and necessary to be running a high standard Managed Service.
  • Educate other team members both on simple and complex operational and administrative tasks

Minimum requirements:

  • First and foremost, we want you to love what you do. You’ll need to be a DevOps evangelist within R3 and the community of Corda Network and Corda Managed Service participants, both current and future.
  • You’ll have eight or more years experience in an Operational type role, with at least five of those in an DevOps role. We’d love to see evidence of other experience too, you might have been a sysadmin, network operations person, or worked in support in previous roles.
  • We believe that we work better as a team. You’ll be working in a diverse team of people with a variety of skills and backgrounds, a high level of emotional intelligence will be assumed. People skills are essential.
  • You’ll need excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. We operate under IaC, this means you are able to pick up and understand code changes on a daily basis.
  • You’ll need experience in working with at least one public cloud provider. We currently use Azure, but experience with other cloud providers such as AWS or GCP is just as good.
  • You’ll have extensive Linux experience. You’ll need to have been deploying infrastructure as code in your previous role. We use Terraform and Ansible for this. We’d love it if you had direct experience of these, but we’re still interested if you’ve used other automated provisioning and configuration management tools.
  • You’ll need to be able to automate things. Working knowledge of at least one contemporary scripting language is essential.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes clusters in production systems/services

Prefered requirements:

  • Exposure to Cloud Native Landscape software.
  • Relevant professional qualifications would be great.
  • An engineering or science degree would be great, but appropriate career experience is just as important. Be prepared to tell us all about that experience
