Site Reliability Engineering at Cruise ensures the reliability, scalability, performance, efficiency, and security of the services that keep Cruise and our fleet of autonomous vehicles moving. We accomplish this by partnering with product and Infrastructure teams to understand the business needs of their systems, and driving improvements to ensure expectations are consistently met.

We are seeking a Senior Manager to head our Site Reliability Engineering organization, leading and growing a number of teams responsible for the most critical systems at Cruise. The successful candidate will have experience building teams and mentoring team members, and will bring innovative ideas and approaches, intellectual curiosity, and strong problem-solving skills.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading and growing SRE teams, mentoring managers, and recruiting and developing talent capable of scaling Cruise through a period of high growth
  • Building relationships with other engineering teams, product management, program management, and related groups to build and improve our growing critical infrastructure and product environments
  • Analyzing current and future needs to plan the organizational roadmap of the SRE organization and its continued growth
  • Ensuring the availability of systems and services critical to Cruise’s mission
  • Driving a culture of reliability across the engineering community
  • Motivating the team, fostering and driving a healthy, inclusive, and collaborative culture, serving as an embodiment of our values

What you must have:

  • Experience managing managers, and leading organizations responsible for production systems
  • 10+ years of experience in software, infrastructure, site reliability, or production engineering
  • Experience running critical systems at scale with an understanding of a wide range of technologies from low-level systems through the application stack
  • Proven track record of cross-collaboration, and influencing without authority
  • Skills in leading high performers as well as performance managing those who need more help
  • Strong communication skills, the ability to advise leadership at the executive level and successfully advocate for initiatives

Bonus points!

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker
