The Digital Workplace Engineering Platform Engineering Team is responsible for building a developer-centric CI/CD and hosting platform to support 150+ engineers in our organization who are building mobile and web applications by providing them with a scalable hosting, CI/CD and Database services. As an Engineering Manager of this team, the role will drive DevOps maturity by providing a great developer experience through automation, monitoring, and reliability.

Your Role and Responsibilities
The IBM CIO organization is building an agile organization which provides best in industry solutions to employees to create a productive work environment. The Digital Workplace Engineering organization plays a major role in this mission by delivering digital workplace solutions. We are a custom software development team that works on web and mobile applications which enhance the productivity of IBMers worldwide. We also work closely with our design partners and believe in continuous feedback loops as part of our agile processes. Currently, we are headquartered in our NYC WeWork office and are very passionate about creating a fun, focused, and a flexible workspace.

  • Lead the development of the platform by identifying industry leading technologies
  • Lead a team of Software Engineers and be responsible for platform uptime
  • Work with product managers to identify priorities for product development
  • Improve DevOps practices of the team to enhance delivery efficiency
  • Build a great engineering team through external hiring and mentoring of team members
  • Manage on-call rotations and support model

Must have the ability to work in the US without current/future need for IBM sponsorship

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • 5+ years of Software Development experience (Java, JavaScript, Node.js, Typescript, Python)
  • 3+ years of engineering management or leadership experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud technologies and containers/Container Orchestration – Kubernetes and Docker or Apache Mesos, Docker Swarm and Microservices architecture
  • Experience with SRE or Platform operations
  • Ability to work with multiple teams to ensure the delivery of successful projects
  • BS in Computer Science

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent related technical discipline
7 plus years’ experience in cloud application development
Experience with deploying containers and container orchestration at scale in a productive environment
