SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

SpaceX engineers are dedicated to refining all aspects humankind’s presence in space, from the performance of the vehicle they will travel in, to the innovative training they’ll receive for their missions. The team has developed a comprehensive training program to turn recruits into fully certified operations team members who are responsible for the safe and efficient transport of astronauts and cargo into space.

As the team scales up for concurrent Dragon missions to the ISS and future human spaceflight programs, we are tackling our upcoming challenges in innovative ways.  As a member of the team, you would focus on transforming how we train mission control operators and astronauts to fly their spacecraft, help to create training materials, and run the simulations. You would also be expected to become a Dragon operator, using your skills and first-hand experience to train new and experienced operators effectively. If you’re creative and have a strong passion for engineering and teaching, come join us as we work to expand access to space.

  • Automate training to accommodate scaling for multiple concurrent Dragon missions on orbit
  • Develop new software tools for planning, execution and tracking of Dragon operator and astronaut training
  • Own the reduction of trainer hours required per training campaign through development of improved training interfaces
  • Script, test, and execute training simulations for operators and flight crew
  • Develop, train, and prepare operators and flight crew to fly the Dragon spacecraft
  • Schedule, plan, and execute training lessons for mission operators and flight crew
  • Work with NASA operations and training teams to communicate training status, schedule, crew performance, and execute NASA-SpaceX integrated simulations
  • Train to be an on-console mission operator to support human spaceflight missions

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline
  • Experience across multiple projects utilizing software tools to solve complex problems (Matlab, Python, Java, C++, etc.)
  • Experience providing technical training to an audience that must apply it in an operational environment, or real-time mission/test operations experience on a complex system

  • Extensive familiarity with python scripting
  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline
  • Previous experience with spacecraft/airplane engineering or operation
  • Previous experience applying software tools to improve technical learning on a large scale
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Clear verbal and written communication of technical information
  • Able to quickly adapt and change course in a fast-paced environment
  • Insatiable hunger for continuous improvement and innovation

  • Must be willing to occasionally travel
  • Must be willing to work long hours and weekends to support launch operations and critical project timelines
  • Must be able to climb ladders, lift training equipment and spacesuits (25-40lbs), and climb around inside a spaceship

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
