We process billions of dollars every year for millions of users, from the largest enterprises to a startup making their first sale. We invest deeply in the reliability and security of our infrastructure to earn their trust.
Deploy and Staging helps engineering teams build confidence in their changes and roll those changes out safely to all regions and domains. Think of us as an air traffic controller of all the changes constantly in flight by engineering. Concretely, we build the platform, tools and environments to enable quick and safe change, such as configuration, feature flags, and service deployments. There is a lot of work to do to make Stripe engineers’ work easier and our platforms even more reliable than they are today, and we’d love for you to be a part of it. We’re close to the people using our systems, and we constantly get feedback on how to make them better.
We’re looking for people wanting to operate across all levels of the stack, from working on UI libraries based in React, to writing tools in Go, and all the way down to interacting with host level networking. The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems for other engineers yet operates with a product mindset. Many of our infrastructure engineers work remotely, and we’d be happy to talk to you about the possibility of working remote.
Recent or in-progress ships include:
- Platform for managing and distributing type checked runtime configuration
- Every service onboarded onto hands off automated deployments such that a merge to master automatically rolls out to production without human monitoring or intervention
- Pre-production environment which automates end-to-end tests for critical flows to catch self-inflicted incidents before user impact in production
- Changelog to help engineers quickly discover what has changed in production, flattening the time in incidents spent figuring out the source of a problem
- Adding critical safety capabilities to deployments, such as blue / green rollouts, global locking, and commit-range barriers
- Helping build out the next generation managed service platform based on Kubernetes
- Design, build, and maintain a change platform with an emphasis on safety and security used by all of Stripe’s engineering teams
- Build a great customer experience for developers using your tools and infrastructure
- Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack
- Plan for the growth of Stripe’s infrastructure
- Identify the shared tooling needs across Stripe, understand their specific requirements, and prioritize solutions
We’re looking for someone who has:
- A strong engineering background and is interested in writing tools for engineers
- Experience developing, maintaining and debugging distributed systems
- Experience building infrastructure as a product centered around users’ needs
- Experience optimizing the reliability and security of distributed systems
- Experience with scaling and migrating systems in a changing environment that allows for little to no downtime
It’s not expected that you’ll have deep expertise in every dimension above, but you should be interested in learning any of the areas that are less familiar.
