Each day, hundreds of thousands of developers make billions of transactions worldwide on our cloud. They harness the power of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable innovative applications, websites, and businesses. The AWS Security team owns security for all of these services offered by AWS, including EC2, S3, and many others. Our team works with the many AWS teams to solve security challenges at massive scale. We enable the trust by building services that meet the security goals of our customers, from compliance to analysis. We use and innovate on technologies that can raise the security bar for all services offered by AWS, and perform massive-scale data analysis.

AWS Security is looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead a team of developers and help us continue to raise the security bar for cloud computing. You should be passionate about solving security hurdles in innovative ways. We do not desire to simply produce good software here at AWS Security... we want to produce disruptive, history changing innovations.

As a SDM, you are empowered to:

· Own vision, strategy planning, prioritization, driving architectural decisions, and end-to-end project delivery.
· Interface with our external customers to understand requirements, set priorities and communicate direction and progress.
· Identify, assess and mitigate risks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs balancing business needs versus constraints.
· Manage the careers of talented engineers, including making hiring decisions, setting goals, providing feedback and managing performance.
· Foster a strong team culture.
· Develop best practices to build and operate critical services.

Our Security teams work in some of the hottest areas in tech, including: big data, security analytics, machine learning, AI, and computer vision

Basic Qualifications



· Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field, such as computer science or engineering
· 5+ years of experience of software development experience including: working with professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operation.
· 3+ years of direct people management for a software development team including: hiring, recruiting, peformance management, coaching and career development
· Strong knowledge of systems design and architecture

Preferred Qualifications

· Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields
· Strong skills in project planning & execution, problem solving. Ability to take a project from initial scoping requirements through actual launch and support of the project
· Demonstrated delivery of large-scale, initially-ambiguous projects
· Some experience with security tools such as intrusion detection, log analysis, and network scanning
· Highly proficient in design and analysis of algorithms and data structures
· Experience in cloud computing (AWS, Azure, etc)
· Experience developing on Unix/Linux using Java, Golang, etc.
· Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
· Exposure to data analysis basics such as SQL, R, Python, etc.
· Working knowledge and understanding of security engineering, system and network security, authentication and security protocols, cryptography, or application security
· Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
