We are looking for a specialist Hbase Database Administrator/Engineer to join our team for 2 months on a fixed term contract. This expert needs proven expertise in previous roles in managing, configuring and tuning HBase.

This is an opportunity for someone with significant HBase expertise to act as subject matter expert in driving change and improvement within our HBase setup as we undertake a major initiative to evolve how we use HBase. They will advise on best practices and improvements for our HBase clusters with a focus on performance, stability and resource efficiency. Their goal will be to ensure optimal performance of the cluster and that it ultimately delivers best value to our clients.

No specific cyber security industry experience is required. We are looking for someone with deep, proven expertise managing and configuring HBase regardless of industry use cases.

Roles & Responsibilities

Work with our engineers to review and optimise the configuration and set-up of our cloud-based HBase clusters with a focus on performance, stability and resource efficiency. This will include recommending new approaches and best practice as well as implementing the most impactful changes. This will include:

  • Input to design and scope of our near term data related initiatives
  • Updates to configuration e.g. JVM tuning, configuration tuning
  • Updates to infrastructure e.g. suggesting different server composition
  • Updates to code interacting with HBase e.g. opportunities to add additional safeguards
  • Monitoring for key indicators of HBase cluster health


Requirements

We are looking for someone with proven expert experience configuring and tuning HBase clusters, ideally in a cloud environment, in previous roles. Specifically we are looking for:

  • Strong experience in previous roles tuning HBase clusters to optimise application level and infrastructure level performance
  • Proven knowledge of HBase versions 1.x or 2.x
  • Experience running and maintaining HBase on HDFS
  • Experience running map/reduce jobs against HBase, ideally using yarn
  • Experience using Docker and understanding of Docker network concepts
  • Experience with Apache Zookeeper


Desirable:

  • Experience interacting with HBase via Apache Phoenix
  • Experience with AWS and AWS networking
  • Experience tuning HDFS to optimise performance
  • Experience tuning map/reduce to optimise performance
