RELIABILITY ENGINEER (STARLINK GATEWAY GROUaND STATIONS)

SpaceX is building and deploying a worldwide fleet of gateway ground station antennas to support the SpaceX Starlink internet. Our reliability engineers will own solving and responding to ground station equipment issues on a daily basis in order to improve our asset availability and uptime. Reliability engineers will work closely with hardware test engineers and technician staff to quickly assess hardware failures, implement automated screening protocols, develop hardware failure fixes, and implement in field repair tasks. The ideal candidate will be expected to have a high degree of hardware familiarity and proficiency to perform risk analysis, map out the asset management strategies and develop leading indicator monitoring systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, and repair a global fleet of antenna assets to ensure Starlink network uptime requirements are met
  • Develop performance monitoring systems and software to track and troubleshoot antenna hardware performance
  • Define and implement asset management policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with external suppliers/contractors for field repair service options and spare parts logistics
  • Drive schedules for site repair visits and remotely support field work with data analysis and troubleshooting
  • Perform onsite in-field repair and investigation for complex failures and system outages
  • Perform site activation and end-to-end testing for new sites
  • Collaborate and advise design and manufacturing teams on optimal design for maintainability methodologies
  • Set up asset reliability strategies using risk based and reliability centered maintenance methodologies
  • Create and sustain asset documentation and preventative maintenance plans
  • Identify and maintain critical spare strategy for worldwide fleet of antennas

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, systems, or manufacturing engineering
  • Experience working on mechanical, electrical, and/or software engineering projects

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of professional experience working on mechanical, electrical, and/or software engineering projects
  • Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical experience and excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills with good fundamental analytical skills
  • Experience with the design, operation, or repair of antennas or radio telescopes
  • Experience managing maintenance planning and reliability assessment for a high volume product or geographically widespread hardware fleet
  • Knowledge of Linux command line operations
  • Familiarity with networking hardware and concepts, including fiber optic troubleshooting and best practices
  • Strong project management skills, detail oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate a high sense of urgency
  • Experience designing and programming solutions with common languages (Python, C++, C#, etc.)
  • Basic competency with SQL databases and reporting software (Tableau, Periscope, etc.)
  • Ability to analyze and review operational telemetry data to monitor system performance and triage issues accordingly
  • Self-starter, able to identify areas for improvement with minimal direction
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple system issues and assignments in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to travel 10-15% of the time, up to one week at a time
  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
