The Role
At Neo4j, we believe that graph databases are the optimal backend for GraphQL APIs. Come and help us realize that vision by joining our GraphQL team! Part of Neo4j’s product engineering department, the GraphQL team designs and builds the official Neo4j GraphQL libraries and services. We are focussed on bringing a world-class GraphQL developer experience to Neo4j, and we have a lot of exciting ideas in the pipeline. 
We’re on the lookout for an experienced engineer to join our rapidly growing and forward-thinking team. You should be comfortable working in a modern JavaScript environment, and be passionate about or interested in all things GraphQL. No prior experience with graph databases or specifically Neo4j is necessary; Cypher is super easy to learn and we all start somewhere!
Your work in the GraphQL team will have a direct and positive impact on developers building full-stack applications using GraphQL and Neo4j. As well as your core work in the team, you will be encouraged to write blogs and articles, assist with training and community events, and speak at conferences and meetups. You will also be given plenty of time and space to innovate, with up to 25% of your time available to work on some of those crazy ideas you’ve been dreaming up. 
You’ll be based in either our engineering HQ in Malmö, Sweden or our office in London, and will travel on occasion between the two. This can of course be mixed with working from home in a balance that works for you. Expect to be pairing and joining design discussions using online collaboration software on a regular basis.At Neo4j, you’ll work in a fun and flexible environment alongside an exceptional international team. What You'll Do:

  • Maintain and improve existing Neo4j GraphQL integrations
  • Design and build new services to enhance the Neo4j GraphQL experience
  • As well as backend engineering, expect the role to expand and/or shift into DevOps engineering as we expand our thinking on the scope of Neo4j and GraphQL
  • Think about how we can build scalable and performant backends using Neo4j GraphQL integrations
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including support 
  • Collaborate with products managers and other engineering teams to ensure the quality of our products
  • Be curious and willing to learn

What You'll Bring

  • Experience of working in a modern JavaScript environment, with a strong understanding of Node.js and its ecosystem
  • Knowledge of how to design and architect scalable backend services
  • Proven experience of deploying applications in high availability and high traffic environments
  • You know your way around containerization and container orchestration, for example using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Your deployment experience has been in the Cloud, or you have knowledge in this area
  • Enthusiasm for working in a flexible manner as demands change; pivoting between working on existing backend integrations, and architecting deployment options for new and exciting offerings using Neo4j and GraphQL
