DevOps Manager – Supplier Technology

Wayfair is looking for a DevOps Manager to organize and drive initiatives that support our Supplier Engineering team. Our team is now building cutting-edge applications and self-service tools which will aid Wayfair sellers in every step of the e-commerce journey. From onboarding to creating and updating their product catalog, to improving the merchandising and pricing of individual products - we will be offering guidance and recommending world-class solutions at every step. We are currently seeking a DevOps manager for our Supplier Technology team! Supplier Tech is on the forefront of innovation at Wayfair and within the e-commerce space! The Supplier Engineering team has been tasked with spearheading the next set of major growth for Wayfair as we strive towards our goal of growing from a $15B company to a $100B company. With this comes the opportunity for you to work on and lead high-visibility projects that have an extremely high impact on Wayfair. Furthermore, you will be green fielding the way we’re going to build applications for our sellers going forward. Our focus is continuously innovating and improving to offer a Best in Class experience.

As a DevOps Manager you’ll have a multitude of opportunities to flex your strengths as well as learn new things while directly assisting our internal customers. We contribute to (and create) bleeding edge open-source projects and continuously push the envelope to explore the future of eCommerce and distributed infrastructure systems. The team focuses on moving workloads into the cloud and designing and deploying the framework that our public cloud platforms are built upon.

What You’ll Do

  • Build different low environments: Dev, functional, integration, automation, load/performance environment, as well as staging one.
  • Build CI/CD framework, and quality ecosystem with different testing tools, e.g. mocking tools, other automation tools.
  • Build branch strategies to support regular and fast releases.
  • Build 100% coverage and efficient monitor/alert system
  • Build DR system based on the RTO and RPO requirements
  • Leverage software development skills to enable self-service deployment of distributed systems
  • Recommend and implement infrastructure best practices in alignment with standard SRE principles and provide guidance on system performance and throughput expectations.
  • Path finding missions; taking existing platforms at Wayfair and helping move them to the cloud
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining the Wayfair public cloud PaaS on Google Cloud
  • Researching and finding the right tools for the job, and if they don't exist creating them
  • Supporting teams who are transitioning to a multi-cloud world - Wayfair Operates on a true hybrid cloud model which includes, on prem (VMWare & K8s), GKE, and GCE.


What You’ll Need

  • Experience with developing, building, securing and operating sophisticated and highly automated Cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS).
  • 8+ years of professional experience in a related Senior Engineering role with experience leading and/or managing Engineers.
  • Prior success in automating and maintaining an efficient large scale real-world production environment.
  • Familiar with deployment patterns/strategy (blue/green, canary, rolling, draining) • Development experience with continuous integration (CI/CD) and automation tools such as GIT, Jenkins, Packer, Terraform, Puppet, Etc
  • The ability to design, author, and release code in languages like Go, Python, Ruby or Java
  • Experience managing full application stack with high availability requirements
  • Experience working with web technologies such as Nginx/PHP/etc. at large scales
  • Able to engage in high-level client-side architecture discussions
  • Experience with performance tuning
  • Advanced Operating System Skills with knowledge of Linux internals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and proven ability to collaborate and work well within a team
