Overview:
Monitoring and infrastructure operations, Rackspace Elastic Engineering for Security is intended to help customers embrace a cloud-centric approach to security while delivering ongoing innovation, modernization, and transformation in addition to 24x7x365 security operations
The Sr. Systems Security Engineer acts as the security expert for cloud-hosted IaaS services customers within a team of security experts delivering advanced security services to Rackspace customers
This role is responsible for helping assess, recommend, design, implement, and manage customers’ operating systems including the provision and configuration of secure workload and public cloud security services related to the operating system as well as application of third-party security tooling as appropriate
The Sr. Systems Security Engineer is expected to take initiative and advise on potential pitfalls that a customer may encounter and suggest alternatives that may better serve the stability and security of the customer's solution
The Rackspace Elastic Engineering delivery model provides high customer affinity and allows the Sr. Systems Security Engineer to serve as an extension of the customers' team while delivering best-practice-led engineering and operations services

You Will:

  • Design, implement and manage scalable security solutions that meet customer requirements leveraging both cloud-agnostic and cloud-native security tools
  • Lead collaborative design and implementation of solutions to meet remediation requirements for audits, security reviews, security incidents, and other activities
  • Design and implement automated security processes and controls to increase operational effectiveness and reduce manual processes
  • Implement and help manage and respond to security monitoring tools including Managed Detection and Response solution
  • Provide system specification documentation deliverables to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities and the security controls necessary to mitigate the vulnerabilities to an acceptable level of risk through the application of risk management framework concepts
  • Participate in pre-project system/network cybersecurity risk assessment and recommend, design, implement, and manage controls as appropriate and as agreed with customers
  • Apply an organization's goals and objectives to develop and maintain security architecture
  • Develop, update, and/or maintain standard operating procedures 
  • Apply cybersecurity, compliance, and privacy and privacy principles to organizational requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation)
  • Conduct routine vulnerability, configuration, and compliance assessments, and work with customers to prioritize and manage the resulting findings
  • Development of IP, tools, processes, procedures, and guidelines to support the development of growth within the Rackspace Elastic Engineering for Security program

You Have

  • 8-11 years of experience in OS Systems Engineering and Administration
  • MCSE for Windows specialization or RHCE for Linux specialization
  • Strong knowledge of OS, including but not limited to: Server Failover Clustering, Active Directory, Web Services (IIS, Apache, Nginx)
  • Strong knowledge of Cloud Native related OS services including but not limited to Patch Management, Active Directory, IAM, Provisioning and Deployment, Security Monitoring related to OS, Vulnerability Assessment
  • Strong knowledge of cloud networking, backup, and storage solutions
  • Strong knowledge of designing, implementing, analyzing, and troubleshooting highly available systems 
  • Strong understanding of services and protocols commonly used in hosting environments: web servers, database servers, mail servers, name servers
  • Proficient knowledge of MSSQL Server
  • Proficient knowledge of Virtualization Technologies (I.e.: VMWare, OpenStack, and Hyper-V) 
  • Proficient knowledge of Cloud Platform Products (Azure/AWS/GCP) 
  • Best practices for deployment of operating systems in Cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP) 
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in implementing server hardening techniques I.e. CIS Benchmarks on OS and applications installed on the OS
  • Proficient knowledge and applied experience of both Project Management methodologies and Process Improvement best-practice
  • Proficient understanding of services and protocols commonly used in hosting environments: web servers, database servers, mail servers, name servers
  • Proficient knowledge in the application of current and emerging network software and hardware technology and protocols
  • Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, especially in technical areas.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technical field
  • At the Manager's discretion, 4 years of additional related experience may substitute for the degree requirement; if substitution allowed, regional equivalent to High School Diploma is required
