The Professional Services Practice Delivery Team is responsible for providing industry leading services to some of Rackspace’s largest and most strategic customers. These customers have large, complex IT estates and have an exceptionally high expectation for the level of service provided by Rackspace. The management of these customer environments are complex from a technical and stakeholder perspective. This role supports a new combined service, Elastic Engineering Plus (EE+) which delivers a DevOps Native experience to customers. As a Cloud Engineer, to deliver Cloud Engineering services into Rackspace’s Enterprise and SME clients. The ideal candidate will have strong, hands on technical skills, with the experience and consulting skills to understand, shape and deliver against our customers’ requirements.We deliver a wide range of technical solutions to our customers and are primarily involved in supporting cloud-native solutions on platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Platform and Amazon Web Services, using a wide range of modern technologies.  This role is particularly well suited to a self-starting and experienced Engineer with a deep understanding of cloud technologies.

Key Accountabilities

  • You’ll be a strong technical expert, with experience leading complex projects from inception to delivery.
  • You’ll have experience working in a consulting role, leading multiple junior engineers to deliver automated, secure, and robust cloud infrastructure solutions.  
  • You’re happy to get involved in all levels of technical discussions, from architecture to hands on coding. 
  • A good grounding in infrastructure technology is highly advantageous, as is a programming background.  
  • Leveraging personal subject matter expertise, working closely with peers
  • The ability to manage and communicate with senior stakeholders is a must.  

Person Specification

  • Strong hands-on cloud experience, GCP experience preferred
  • Experience building cloud automation, including CD/CI pipelines using technologies equivalent to Ansible, Terraform, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Docker. Experience in these specific technologies is essential 
  • Strong network experience, familiar with cloud network patterns such as VPC, network interconnect, subnets, peering, firewalls. 
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of cloud related technologies, and can articulate best practice approaches and practices 
  • Experience collaborating with developers and platform engineers, contributing to architecture and continuously optimising infrastructure to remove bottlenecks and improve automation.  
  • Skills in Go, NodeJS and/or Python preferable  
  • Experience leading technical teams, with multiple engineers reporting in multi-million pound projects/programmes 
  • Certified as a professional on at least one of the major public cloud platforms
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of industry best practices and how to apply them to company policies and procedures and customer requirements. The ability to communicate technical information and complex technical issues to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent networking skills, with a proven ability to navigate organizations and build strong relationships with C level leaders.
  • Aptitude for resolving a variety of issues efficiently and effectively – with the authority to create solutions and the desire to take on responsibility.
  • Highest level of communication, organization, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent ability to prioritise a highly varied workload.
  • Solid understanding of industry standard delivery methodologies such as ITIL, DevOps, Kanban.
