The Professional Services Practice Delivery Team is responsible for providing industry leading services to some of Rackspace’s largest and most strategic customers. These customers have large, complex IT estates and have an exceptionally high expectation for the level of service provided by Rackspace. The management of these customer environments are complex from a technical and stakeholder perspective. This role supports a new combined service, Elastic Engineering Plus (EE+) which delivers a DevOps Native experience to customers. As a Cloud Engineering Team Leader, you will lead a team of engineers. Our engineers work on delivering a wide range of technical solutions to our customers and are primarily involved in supporting cloud-native solutions on platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Platform and Amazon Web Services, using a wide range of modern technologies.  This role is primarily a people-leader role within a newly established function with some technical delivery required. As such, this role is particularly well suited to a self-starting and experienced team leader with a deep understanding of cloud technologies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Day to day management of a team highly skilled technical (cloud) engineers 
  • Build a successful team of engaged and motivated Rackers 
  • Develop individual team members to become the best version of themselves through mentorship and coaching 
  • Drive a successful relationship with the customers which are supported by your team 
  • Hold weekly team huddles and regular one and ones with individual team members 
  • Work with customer and Rackspace stakeholders to make every engagement a success 
  • Take responsibility for the utilization levels of the team across engagements and report on this to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Support the sales and bids functions within Rackspace for bids specific to your team 
  • Identify opportunities for improvement for the customer, the team and Rackspace and take ownership for the outcomes 
  • Be the go-to person for your team and the customer regarding the day-to-day delivery of the work 

Person Specification

  • Prior experience of leading a team of engineers in IT, including hiring and personal development of team members
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of industry best practices and how to apply them to company policies and procedures and customer requirements. The ability to communicate technical information and complex technical issues to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent networking skills, with a proven ability to navigate organizations and build strong relationships with C level leaders.
  • Aptitude for resolving a variety of issues efficiently and effectively – with the authority to create solutions and the desire to take on responsibility.
  • Highest level of communication, organization, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Proactive in nature – with a focus on creating strategic 6-month, 1-year, 2-year plans.
  • Experience with customer negotiations.
  • Excellent ability to prioritise a highly varied workload.
  • Strong Experience in the IT industry with a good understanding of Cloud & Automation Technologies.
  • Solid understanding of industry standard delivery methodologies such as ITIL, DevOps, Kanban.
