The Role

This is a fully remote position based anywhere in Europe. We currently have a number of remote engineers based in the UK, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, Slovakia, Spain and Romania.

We’re looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join the engineering team. You’ll be working alongside a highly technical and motivated team and report to the technical co-founder. You will work in our platform team alongside developers, architects, and product managers to deliver automation, tooling and cloud infrastructure. For people with the right mindset, this frame of mind provides an intellectually stimulating environment. Career progression is key here and there is the opportunity to move in to a Tech Lead position over time.

The engineering team sits at the centre of everything we do at Plentific and is constantly tackling challenging problems, such as online payments, quoting, invoicing, booking, search / scoring algorithms, ETL, data pipelines, in-app messaging, real-time notifications and fraud prevention. Our backend engineers mostly work with Python and Django on an increasingly more service-oriented architecture. The rest of the tech stack include Django REST Framework, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, AWS, ES6, React.js, Alt.js, Node.js, Express, Amazon Redshift, Kubernetes, Docker, Redis, Celery, Pandas, Numpy, Scrapy, Git with Zenhub, Jenkins, Elasticsearch, Logstash and lots of raw SQL for analytics. We have a very large but clean code base as we put significant emphasis on design patterns, code readability, testability, maintainability and extendability.


  • Identifying, designing, and implementing continuous improvements to our build, test, and deploy solutions as Plentific’s platform grows
  • Developing applications and tools to build and extend our platform
  • Owning the design, build, monitoring and expansion to help deliver a fully featured and secure platform on top of which the business can deploy any application or product
  • Work alongside colleagues in engineering, testing, product management and security to build, test and deploy software of the highest quality.
  • Work closely with the development team to bring new software releases and features to production more effectively
  • Design, write and deliver software that improves the lives of our engineers and the scalability of our platform
  • Designing and coding CI/CD pipelines from scratch
  • Define SLOs and error quotas for services destined to run in production
  • Ensure long-term scalability and maintainability of the Plentific Platform
  • Improving Plentifics engineering standards such as coding standards, TDD/BDD practices, frameworks, tooling, documentations. As well as our processes, design reviews and code reviews.
  • Identify, design and implement performance improvements to our platform and database at scale.
  • Write well-formulated, testable and readable code using appropriate software design patterns
  • Design, build and maintain APIs, microservices and data pipelines
  • Write complex SQL queries to get data from the database
  • Optimise APIs and database queries to improve speed of execution
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Debug and fix bugs across our applications
  • Review, maintain and refactor existing code to meet the requirements for improved or new features
  • Write technical documentation of code, algorithms and APIs
  • Help in drafting of end-user manuals


  • 5+ years experience Python
  • Technical experience in building high performance, scalable and resilient infrastructure and solutions
  • Developing tooling to help our teams work better and accelerate our time to market
  • Experience of using RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch, Grafana, NewRelic services at scale is highly desirable
  • A good understanding of continuous integration/deployment tools and practices
  • Familiarity with our key tools - Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker and AWS
  • Designing and implementing autonomous cloud-native solutions that accelerate our software development
  • Working closely to a DevOps/SRE function, supporting a web application product, is desirable
  • Experience managing infrastructure as code, using a software engineering mindset.
  • Pairing up across teams to design, review, build and maintain new product features
  • Ability to work UK working hours (+/- 3 hours)
  • Strong computer science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, discrete mathematics, software design patterns
  • Experience in relational database management and SQL query optimisation
  • Passion for writing clean, modular, well-commented, readable and reusable code
  • Ability to think out of the box with a can-do attitude to get things done efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate technical concepts in plain English
  • Top academics (BSc, MSc or PhD) in computer science, engineering, computational physics, mathematics or another field with strong computational curriculum
