We’re looking for a talented Data Platforms Engineer.  You will participate in design, implementation, automating, testing and documenting the solutions and infrastructure to enable data analytics at scale. Someone who is passionate about relentless automation, takes pride in their craftsmanship, and challenges the status quo. As part of this role, you will build relationships and communities which foster knowledge sharing and continuous learning/improvement.

What you'll do

  • Create the platforms, tooling and integrations required to enable other teams to work with data 
  • Enable our BI platforms to be automated and intentional, providing a #beautiful user experience
  • Improve the existing solutions and propose improvements or alternative solutions where applicable 
  • Input into design and implementation of effective deployment and monitoring services
  • Be a team player and actively participate during platform design sessions, platform services support and management along with our wider geographically distributed teams
  • Work with Engineering, Product and Technology teams to understand the platform vision and needs
  • Be dedicated to automation, documentation, and collaboration at all stages of the engineering workflow
  • Proactively monitor environments and drive problem management, troubleshooting and tuning 
  • Undertake core maintenance and support functions of systems, software installations, patching and upgrades
  • Automation of everything to release fast, frequently, and reliably
  • Remain up to date with relevant technology changes and trends and continually grow knowledge of how they may benefit Xero
  • Provide support for what you build, respond to issues and be part of the on-call roster

What you'll bring with you

  • Experience automating deployment and management of highly available BI and Reporting Platforms
  • Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, Cloudformation, Ansible or Chef, etc.)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools and processes
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical abilities
  • An understanding of database management
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodology and tooling, including continuous integration and delivery
  • An understanding of network services and cloud security best practices
  • Understanding and experience measuring and designing for non-functionals, like reliability, availability, security and performance
  • Strong engineering skills with the ability to articulate and advocate a technical vision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute meaningful and accurate advice
