The Amazon Devices team designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics, including the best-selling Kindle family of products. We have also produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Dash, and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?

The Role:

As a Senior Software Tools and Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining a full-suite hardware validation test infrastructure. We are building fully integrated on premises and cloud software automation tools using modern frameworks. We have an ambitious roadmap to delight our users so we are looking for candidates with a broad set of skills and the ability to creatively solve problems. In this role you will:

* Design, build and own major parts of the hardware test infrastructure (configuration and data management systems, cloud and desktop services and applications, web UIs, analytics tools and more)
* Contribute to an automation framework which controls electrical bench measurement equipment (power supply, multimeter, oscilloscope) and DUTs across all Amazon Devices products
* Review test processes and translate them into automated scripts
* Review test equipment as well as infrastructure and recommend improvements

Basic Qualifications


* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience
* 7+ years of industry experience as a Software or Automation Engineer
* 5+ years of experience writing hardware test automation software
* Experience with at least one modern object-oriented language (Java, C#, Python, Kotlin, PHP, TypeScript etc.)
* Experience understanding algorithms and data structures
* Experience partnering with hardware teams to define and implement firmware, drivers and validation tools
* Experience with routine use of version control systems, code review, continuous integration and delivery as well as software testing best practices
* Experience applying CS and EE fundamentals

Preferred Qualifications

* Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline
* 10+ years of industry experience as a Software or Automation Engineer
* Proven track record of designing automation software systems from scratch and evolving existing software
* Team lead for 4+ engineers responsible for translating business requirements into software design, managing project and delivering final product on schedule
* Delivered the most difficult and foundational parts of the code base
* Extensive knowledge of Python
* Experience designing, implementing and maintaining distributed cloud-based solutions
* Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and ORMs
* Experience writing web-based UI/UXs and dashboards
* Experience with concurrency and parallel programming
* Experience designing and implementing APIs for distributed computing
* Experience writing on-device test utilities
* Knowledge of Machine Learning
* Comfortable with command line interface in Linux and Android
