We are looking for a Senior Database Infrastructure Engineer to join our Datastore Infrastructure Engineering Team. We are responsible for all aspects of MySQL, Redis, Memcached, DynamoDB, Kafka and RabbitMQ datastores and proxies like ProxySQL, Zookeeper and MCRouter across environments including production. Our primary tools are Terraform, Ansible and Python. The position is a blend of database engineering, system administration and software development that applies sound engineering principles, operational discipline and mature software development practices. We value teamwork, good humor, strong sense of ownership, technological curiosity, and a desire to learn. DSI team members are primarily located in San Francisco, US and Dublin, Ireland.


  • Participate in architecture and implementation of reliable, scalable, fault tolerant, and performant distributed database systems with self-healing abilities
  • Proactively respond to production infrastructure alerts and warnings, mitigate production issues as they arise and transform incident lessons into automation, documentation and monitoring
  • Automate routine administration flows
  • Constantly increase datastores resiliency and automation 
  • Develop and enhance datastore production environment performance, observability, monitoring and management capabilities using a mix of proven and cutting edge technologies
  • Mentor Production Engineers and application developers on datastore infrastructure scalability and performance best practices
  • Work with security engineers to meet data security, auditability and encryption standards
  • Develop self-service tools and applications for our engineering community
  • Perform code reviews and answer datastore related infrastructure questions
  • Create and maintain documentation -Participate in On-Call rotation


  • Experience designing, building and operating distributed datastore systems with hundreds of nodes
  • Passion for performance, observability, availability and scalability
  • Expert-level knowledge, administration skills and hands on experience with one or more of the following datastores: MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, Memcached, DynamoDB
  • Solid software engineering skills with proficiency in at least one high level programming language (Python preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible or Puppet
  • Experience with container orchestrators (Kubernetes) and automated testing, continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g. Molecule, Atlantis, Jenkins, Argo) for stateful infrastructure changes 
  • Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate with other teams and participate in cross-team troubleshooting processes and application design
  • Good understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and debugging skills
  • 8+ years experience managing large-scale database systems, including significant experience in Cloud and/or hybrid environments (AWS preferred)
