Veterinary Nurse, Full-time

Brooklyn, United States
Full-Time
Remote

At Pawp, we understand that dogs and cats are more than just pets; they're part of the family. However, with increasing vet bills and other pet expenses, it can cost thousands of dollars each year to keep your furry friends healthy and safe.

That's why we're on a mission to improve the quality of life for pets. We're creating tools and services that transform the world of vet care and make it more accessible to everyone.

Pawp is a venture-backed tech company led by Lux Capital. Our founding team has also led the development of products such as Clarity Money and Paribus. Our product has been featured in Forbes, Popsugar, Insider, People, the WSJ, and other publications.

About The Role

Pawp is expanding our Veterinary Operations team and hiring for multiple positions for Veterinary Nurses. These nurses will provide tele-triage and tele-advice to Pawp members who have questions or concerns about their cats or dogs. Tele-triage involves communicating with a licensed veterinary professional via technology to determine whether a pet's condition is emergent or can wait for an appointment the following business day. While you will not be asked to diagnose, treat, or prescribe medication since a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) cannot be established through these means, you can list rule-outs to convey urgency and guide clients when they feel most helpless. Tele-advice involves providing valuable educational insights utilizing your knowledge and experience as a licensed veterinary professional. All consultations will be conducted through the Pawp platform, which is equipped with video and chat capabilities.

This role is a 6-month, contract-to-hire position, with a commitment required of up to 40-hours per week. The position has potential to turn into a permanent position based on performance and business needs.

Schedules will be established by shifts. Shift schedule preferences will be based on availability.

Your role:

  • Accept remote consultations (chat and video) with Pawp members to provide advice, education, and support for the care and treatment of their pets.
  • Obtain a brief patient history in your consultation, and gather triage information to determine and deliver appropriate guidance for treatment plans and follow-up care instructions.
  • Provide a timely navigation to physical care, particularly in an emergency situation, whenever appropriate.
  • Empower pet parents by sharing educational insights, articles and resources to help them better understand their pet’s condition or issue.
  • Make recommendations on supplements or other pet OTC items that may help the pet with their condition or issue whenever appropriate.
  • Make recommendations on potential home care and timeframe on when/if an appointment should be made for further evaluation.
  • Promote pet parents on the importance of preventative care whenever appropriate.
  • Help everyday people be better pet parents and make the right decisions for their pets.

What you'll need:

  • An active certification or license in the US (CVT/LVT/RVT).
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant clinical experience in a small animal practice with at least some ER/Triage experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm to be a lifelong learner and updating your medical knowledge to stay current with the times.
  • Ability to empathize and provide compassionate care to a diverse demographic of pet parents
  • Experience with e-consultations or tele-health a plus but not mandatory.
  • Ability to speak a second language other than English a plus.
  • Team player: You maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees and promote a collaborative working environment among all staff members. You understand the value of teamwork in creating a functional operation.
  • Must possess a client-centric hospitality mindset.
