Oda is a company on the move. We built Norway’s leading online grocery store and now we want to share what we’ve created with the world! Delivering a huge range of high-quality, affordable groceries and fresh produce to millions of doorsteps is a complex process, but we believe we’ve cracked the code. Using data-driven methodology, with a focus on sustainability all the way along the chain, we are building the most efficient retail system in the world.
Designer in Oda Logistics 🚚
We’re looking for a service designer or digital designer to join the Delivery Experience team within Oda’s Logistics platform. As a designer in this team, you will be focused on creating the best possible experience for our drivers and the important work they do every day. This role gives you a unique opportunity to work directly with users of the digital products you will be designing. You will also be working closely with team leads, developers and data analysts in your cross-disciplinary team. The team not only works with digital surfaces, but also the physical processes and conditions, and how the three work together.
Previous experience with working in logistics or delivery services is an advantage, but not a requirement. Being able to be present at our Fulfillment Centers in the greater Oslo area on a regular basis is also a big advantage.
You will work with complex workflows, have the opportunity to work in tight feedback loops with end users (our operations colleagues), see a lot of things go live, and work with software in combination with physical machinery, physical space, and operator routines. This makes logistics very satisfying for designers.
Our design community is now over 30 people strong and is looking to grow further. It includes service designers, digital designers, UX researchers, content designers, brand designers, and even an industrial designer. As a company, our high-quality customer experience is the key part of our value proposition, and our service is loved by our customers. Everyone in Oda - not just designers - cares deeply about making well-crafted, high-quality products. We have a clear mission to provide more space for life for people, which goes hand in hand with our ambitious goals (hello Finland and Germany!).
What you’ll do as a UX designer with us 👨🎤
Designers in Oda work embedded in one of our cross-functional product teams, including developers, product managers, data scientists & analysts, and business specialists. These teams are built around specific problem spaces or phases of the customer journey, and are rigged to set their own goals, work independently, and provide solutions directly.
You’ll lead design work on projects within your team, seeing things through from initial discovery work through implementation and launch. We don’t have a specific Oda design process (we trust people know what they’re doing), but you can expect the following tasks to be embedded in your daily work live:
- UX research, discovery, and analysis
- Mapping and systems modeling
- Workshop facilitation
- Project planning and prioritization
- Designing and user testing clickable prototypes in Figma
- Working closely with developers, involving them in your design process from start to end
- Service implementation and follow-up
To be successful, we believe you 🌟
- Follow a user-centric process, starting with customer insights, through concept and user testing and follow-up.
- Frame design effort towards outcomes: targeting specific business or customer value metrics, setting up work towards testing hypotheses. You are good at understanding why you’re doing things.
- Have a bit of grit: We need you to go way down into the details of edge cases, software details, and root causes. Find out what’s really going on, go out and talk to people, see things through. Ask all the questions, because we truly think there are no “dumb” ones.
- Think in systems. Everything at Oda hangs together as one service and one value chain. Everything you do affects everyone else. Turning complexity into clarity should be a strength, as is curiosity stamina.
- Favour progress over perfection: What we value more than the perfect service blueprint is getting things out into the world and learning. You should be clever about making smart tradeoffs that can move us forward, while knowing when not to compromise on UX.
The following will probably be helpful 💡
- Have experience with logistics processes, and understand how to create user experiences that work well together with the physical processes and conditions in our operations.
- A few years of experience in UX, interaction, or service design, delivering projects in either an in-house or agency setting.
- Experience working on cross-functional teams. Leading initiatives and working side by side with developers and product managers from start to finish.
- Software development literacy. This is a design role within a technology company. You should know your medium, be able to talk with developers, and have a sense of what is easy and hard to do with software.
