OVO External is hiring a

User Researcher - 12 month FTC

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and talented midweight User Researcher who wants to work on complex projects and support multiple product teams to help us reach Plan Zero.
As a User Researcher you will report into the User Research Lead and collaborate with a wide range of other disciplines. Working closely with designers, you’ll develop and execute research plans to support product development on a daily basis. You will also work with other researchers to develop and improve our collective expertise and ways of working.

What will I be doing?

We’re building the future of zero carbon living and we’ve got a lot to do. You’ll coordinate planning, analysing, and communicating research, and helping to identify where it's needed. We see user research as a team sport so you’ll involve as many people as possible in generative and evaluative activities, collaborative analysis, and sharing evidence and insights. And as part of our user research practice you’ll help build up our research operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strong qualitative and some quantitative skills
  • Proficiency in a range of techniques and research methods that you know how and when to apply
  • Knowledge of what matters when planning and conducting research
  • A rigorous approach to research analysis
  • Presentation skills and confidence in playing back findings to audiences of different levels and disciplines
  • The ability to work autonomously whilst also committing to achieving shared team goals
  • Experience working with agile teams, as well as experience with evidence-based and human-centred design frameworks
  • Enthusiasm to challenge yourself and learn more
  • Adaptability and an understanding that as the business evolves, our research goals and focus will develop and change

Is this the job for me?

  • Are looking for autonomy and accountability to deliver great outcomes, while delivering value at the earliest opportunity
  • You find new concepts easy to understand, and show the tenacity to keep asking until clarity is achieved
  • You love sharing your skills and experiences with colleagues
  • Know your strengths, yet recognise there’s always more to learn from others
  • Are adaptable and take change in your stride

Brilliant benefits for a world-changing team

Our people are at the heart of Plan Zero. That’s why we offer plenty of green benefits and progressive policies to make you feel at home.

For starters, you’ll get 34 days of holiday (including bank holidays).

Then there’s Flex Pay. It’s an extra 9% of your salary on top of your core pay to use as you like. You can take it as cash, add to your pension, or choose to spend it on a huge range of flex benefits.

Here’s a taster of what’s on offer:

For your health
