Soros Fund Management LLC (SFM) is a family office with approximately $28 billion in net assets under management. The majority of the assets are managed on behalf of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), which was founded by George Soros and is one of the largest charitable foundations in the world. OSF supports civil society groups across the world and promotes justice, human rights, democracy, education, public health, and independent media. SFM has approximately 200 employees and is headquartered in New York with offices in London, Dublin and Hong Kong. The majority of the assets are managed internally, and SFM can invest globally in a wide range of investment strategies and asset classes, including equities, credit, fixed income, macro and private equity.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will report to and partner with the Chief Technology Officer (“CTO”) and foster strong lines of communication and collaboration with business leaders across the firm to drive key strategic initiatives and deliver on technology-related business priorities.  The successful candidate must be a critical thought leader and catalyst for change management as this person will work closely with the CTO and assist with operational aspects of managing a sizeable technology team and delivering upon a transformational technology roadmap. This will include helping the CTO hold team members accountable for delivery in line with deadlines.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of SFM’s business areas, internal processes, and interconnectivity across investment and non-investment teams.  This candidate will lead multiple cross-functional initiatives, working with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of goals and execution.  As such, the successful candidate must build strong partnerships across SFM, ensuring transparency and two-way communication between stakeholders, project teams, and firm leadership.  This candidate must be able to prioritize effectively based on strategic objectives, while also remaining nimble as situations evolve. The role will also require hands-on project management, with the candidate able to help define project scope, develop project plans, and manage the successful execution and delivery of key initiatives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage interdisciplinary projects
    • Identify stakeholders broadly
    • Work with stakeholders to define scope and to identify interdependencies
    • Identify and document functional and technical requirements
    • Create project plans, deliverable timelines and milestones
    • Develop and maintain project budgets
    • Determine and secure required resources
    • Drive accountability for deliverables among team members and support performance management
    • Negotiate contracts and manage third-party vendors as required
    • Track and report upon project status, deliverables, open issues, etc.
  • Oversee change management associated with technology initiatives
    • Establish awareness and buy-in among key constituents
    • Effectively resolve differences between stakeholders
    • Ensure that best practices are utilized as new systems and processes are deployed
    • Understand interdependencies between different work streams and develop contingency plans as needed to manage operational risk
    • Provide transparency to project stakeholders and firm leadership on progress
  • Manage Prioritization
    • Align day-to-day priorities as needed to accomplish project objectives
    • Balance tactical solutions with strategic solutions, articulating trade-offs and decision points
    • Establish a data-driven approach to measuring progress, adapting project plans as needed to incorporate new information and cost/benefit considerations

  • Strong understanding of the financial and operating cadence of an entrepreneurial multi-strategy asset management firm
  • General awareness of software development processes and best practices
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to break complex issues into achievable goals
  • Established relationships with senior executives, solution providers, and subject matter experts across the asset management industry

Anticipated Salary Range

We anticipate the annual base salary for this role will be in the range of $200,000 - $250,000.  In addition to a base salary, the successful candidate will be eligible to receive a discretionary year-end bonus, as well as other benefits.
