Summer Internship, Product Design | Music Mission (US)

New York, United States
Internship
We are looking for a Product Design Intern to join the Music Vertical Platform team in the Music Mission this summer. Music Vertical Platform strives to power the growing scale, complexity, and business needs of Spotify’s Music Mission. We build core capabilities and platforms that enable creators and their teams to build an audience, monetize fans, and live off of their work.

You are someone who is passionate about problem solving based on insights from real people. You are interested in refining your craft and creating strong partnerships with your colleagues across engineering, product, and research. You like to go deep into problems, and you know that visual design is just one small piece of the puzzle. You love music and you are energized by the idea of helping ‌people who are at the epicenter of the ever-complex music industry.

What you'll do

  • Dive into unfamiliar problem spaces and think about user needs, end-to-end experiences, and ease of use.
  • Apply design thinking to improve our services, which can be quite technical in nature.
  • Leverage different research methods to validate your design solutions and form a point of view.
  • Produce design artifacts; knowing when to apply pixel-perfect attention to detail, and when to zoom out and think about the system as a whole. You are comfortable creating low-fi sketches and mapping user flows as well as generating realistic prototypes.
  • Work on design projects across the entire product lifecycle. Our teams focus on listening to users and letting their needs guide us to the best solutions. It’s important for us to know we are solving for real people and not just the loudest voice in the room.
  • Work with small multi-disciplinary teams. You’ll partner closely with engineering, product, research, and business folks to find elegant but practical solutions.

Who you are

  • You are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or a bootcamp certification in Design, User Experience, Human Computer Interaction or a related field of study.
  • You have a graduation date of 2024.
  • You currently have valid work authorization to work in the country in which this role is based that will extend from June to August 2023.
  • You have experience with: product design, Figma, UX, user research, journey mapping, system mapping, service design, UI/visual design
  • You are as excited about designing solutions for our internal teams as you are designing for artists and labels.
  • You’re a great communicator. You have the communication skills to help set up frameworks and brainstorm initial design concepts. You are comfortable facilitating workshops.
  • You can work within constraints without compromising the user experience.
  • You are constantly looking to hone your design instinct through user feedback, peer feedback, and learning new design skills and techniques.
  • You have an online portfolio or PDF that you can share with us and have some projects that you can tell us about.

Where you'll be

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location. Preferably in New York.
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here.
  • Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration.

Our paid summer internships last for 10-13 weeks and start at the beginning of June. The last day to apply is March 1st, 2023 at 10AM EST.

The United States hourly rate for this position is 33.00 USD (Undergraduate First Year & Sophomores), 42.00 USD (Undergraduate Juniors & Seniors), 49.00 USD (Masters) & 58.00 USD (PhD) per hour plus a one time intern stipend of 2,253 USD. This position is overtime eligible. These rates may be modified in the future.

Spotify is an equal opportunity employer. You are welcome at Spotify for who you are, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or what’s playing in your headphones. So bring us your personal experience, your perspectives, and your background. It’s in our differences that we will find the power to keep revolutionizing the way the world listens.
