We are looking for Data Scientist Interns to #JoinTheBand and help drive a data-first culture in the Content Unit, which works with the artists and podcasters that build the outstanding work that fills our platform. Our Data Scientist mission is to turn terabytes of data into insights and get a deep understanding of audio and listeners, so we can impact the strategy and direction of Spotify. You will study user behavior, critical initiatives, markets, content, and new features and bring data and insights into key decisions. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences audio. 

What you'll do

  • Perform a range of analyses on very large datasets to extract concrete insights that will help drive decisions.
  • Build dashboards and recurring reporting results, empowering creative growth and business decisions.
  • Design and build ML models to help drive decision-making within the org.
  • Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to key collaborators.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams of data scientists, engineers, and industry experts across the company, who are passionate about Spotify’s success.

Who you are

  • A current student pursuing a Master’s or post-graduate degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or a similar quantitative field and planning to graduate in 2024
  • You currently have valid work authorization to work in the country in which this role is based that will extend from June to August 2023
  • You harbor a passion for numbers and the use of data to make decisions
  • You have the technical competence to perform analytics in one or more of the following three areas:
  • (1) Experience analyzing and summarizing complex data via modern SQL dialects.
  • (2) Intermediate programming skills, with proven experience using tools such as Python or R to deliver complex analytic, or ML-based, insights.
  • (3) Experience performing analysis with terabyte or larger datasets.
  • You will work out of our New York City office

Our paid summer internships last for 10-13 weeks and start at the beginning of June. The last day to apply is March 2, 2023, at 11:59 PM ET.

The United States hourly rate for this position is 33.00 USD (Undergraduate First Year & Sophomores), 42.00 USD (Undergraduate Juniors & Seniors), 49.00 USD (Masters) & 58.00 USD (PhD) per hour plus a one-time intern stipend of 2,253 USD. This position is overtime eligible. These rates may be modified in the future.
