We are now looking for a Backend Engineer Intern to join our Experimentation team. Our systems power the thousands of A/B tests and metrics that we rely on to build the best Spotify experience possible. If you have an interest in large scale distributed backend systems that process vast amounts of data this internship is for you. You will help build the backend systems that power our application, scale highly distributed systems, and continuously improve our engineering practices. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences audio.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with other engineers, product owners, and designers to tackle exciting and challenging problems in the world of experimentation.
- Be a valued member of an autonomous, multi-functional agile team.
- Learn and interact with our software architecture and how to develop Java services which serves millions of users.
- Be a member of the Spotify-wide backend developer community affecting and driving our architecture across the company.
Who you are
- You are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field of study.
- You have a graduation date in 2024.
- You are proficient in Java and have experience with Python.
- You have experience in backend development and distributed systems via prior internships, coursework, and/or projects.
- You have an understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
- You care about quality and want to learn what it means to ship high-quality code.
- If you are passionate about data engineering and/or statistics that is a big plus.

- Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the EMEA region in which we have a work location.

- Working hours? We operate within the Central European and GMT time zones for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
Our paid summer internships last for 10-13 weeks and start at the beginning of June. The last day to apply is March 8th, 2023 at 10 AM CET.
