The Team & Role
The Strategic Finance team plays a critical role in accelerating Gem’s growth and scale and shaping the trajectory of the business. We drive predictability of financial performance and fuel the decision engine that optimizes investments and resources. We ensure the operating plan aligns with Gem’s top priorities and long-term strategy, and power the insights to enable teams across the company to achieve those goals.
As the first analyst of the Strategic Finance team and a trusted partner to the CFO, you will play an integral role in ensuring Gem makes sound business decisions by driving analyses of results, financial forecasts and scenario modeling. You will collaborate with senior leaders in our Go-to-market and Engineering and Product teams to derive financial plans and operational goals, and deliver actionable insights to help them execute against strategic priorities
The ideal candidate is a self-starter and team player who embraces challenges and proactively takes ownership of business outcomes. You will combine a strategic mindset, deep analytical rigor and excellent business partnering skills to drive smart decision making and cross functional alignment.
This role reports to the Head of Strategic Finance and is based in San Francisco.
What you’ll do day-to-day:
- Partner with go-to-market leaders to drive sales and renewals forecast and establish leading indicators and customers health metrics to enable revenue predictability
- Develop business cases for product monetization, market expansion and growth initiatives in collaboration with product, engineering and sales leaders
- Track and analyze key performance metrics to uncover insights and identify business opportunities and risks
- Support long range and annual planning processes through developing frameworks to translate strategic objectives into financial targets and plans
- Build financial models to analyze returns on investments and optimize resource allocation
- Lead agile scenario modelling to align operational levers to growth and efficiency goals
- Own and evolve free cash flow forecasting process, partnering with Accounting to continuously improve visibility and management of liquidity
- Support capital raising activities with debt and equity investors
- Provide reporting of results and analyses on business drivers to Executives and Board of Directors to support company-level decision making
- Implement tools and streamline processes to scale reporting and forecasting processes
About you:
- 2+ years of experience within Corporate Strategy/FP&A, or at an Investment Banking or Consulting firm
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial concepts

Advance analytical and financial modeling skills; you enjoy getting “in the weeds” if needed
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills to influence leadership decisions
- Excellent business partnering skills and proven ability to drive alignment cross-functionally
- Ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and concrete action plans
- Self-starter who’s intellectually agile with an owners mindset to drive business results
- Comfortable with navigating ambiguity in a fast paced and unstructured environment
- Experience with Salesforce and financial systems such as Adaptive, Anaplan or NetSuite a plus

For roles based in New York City, NY and San Francisco, CA out of our HQs, the base salary hiring range for this position is $107,500 - $134,500. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits.
This role is not eligible for remote work.
