Arcellx is hiring a

Senior Scientist, Cell Biology

Gaithersburg, United States

Arcellx, Inc. (http://www.arcellx.com/) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company reimagining cell therapy by engineering innovative immunotherapies for patients with cancer and other incurable diseases. Arcellx believes that cell therapies are one of the forward pillars of medicine and our mission is to advance humanity by developing cell therapies that are safer, more effective, and more broadly accessible. Our offices are located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Redwood City, California.

Arcellx's lead product candidate, CART-ddBCMA, is being developed for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (r/r MM) in an ongoing study. CART-ddBCMA has been granted Fast Track, Orphan Drug, and Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy designations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Arcellx is also advancing its dosable and controllable CAR-T therapy, ARC-SparX, through two programs: ACLX-001 for r/r MM and ACLX-002 in relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia and high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome.

We are seeking a Senior Scientist with a proven track record of scientific excellence and project leadership in oncology research to join our Biology team within the Research department. You will have a direct impact on the Arcellx drug pipeline, both as a project leader and a lab-based contributor. You will work together with an experienced cross-functional team responsible for discovery, characterization, and optimization of novel cell-based therapies. You will bring your theoretical and practical expertise in cell therapy, immuno-oncology, and/or cancer drug discovery to lead pipeline projects, establish program priorities and work with a cross-functional team to deliver pre-clinical datasets to support pipeline progression. In the lab, you will develop, design, conduct and analyze in vitro and in vivo data to assess the function and mechanism of novel cell therapies. As a result-oriented self-starter, you will have a strong commitment to teamwork and reliability.

We value passion, curiosity, determination, and diversity, and look for candidates who demonstrate a genuine interest in our mission and alignment with our values

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop program strategy, driving the delivery of key pre-clinical data that supports program progression.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, and effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion.
  • Stay up to date with relevant technical and intellectual scientific expertise in tumor biology and cancer modelling, particularly as it relates to CAR-T cell biology or other cell-based therapies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with 0-2+ years of research experience within the pharmaceutical industry or post-doctoral experience within a relevant field. Candidates with a master’s degree and 5-8+ years research experience within the pharmaceutical industry will also be considered. Specific backgrounds of interest are:
    • Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cells, alternative cell-based cancer therapeutics, or the investigation of T-cell biology
    • Solid Tumor Immunology (Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes, Myeloid Derived Suppressor Cells, Tumor Associated Macrophages, Regulatory T-cells)
    • The use of biologics in anti-cancer therapy
  • Expertise in manipulating immune cells, particularly T cells, including purification, transfection/transduction, activation and expansion.
  • Expertise in in vivo models of human cancer, including cell line derived xenografts and patient-derived xenografts.
  • Proficiency with complex immune cell assays including multiparameter flow cytometry, in vitro cell based assays (e.g. cytotoxicity, proliferation, degranulation), live cell analysis, and multiplex assays.
  • Proficiency in advanced analysis techniques for flow cytometry.
  • Effective and timely communication of results and relevant scientific literature.
  • Commitment to ethical scientific investigations and rigorous experimental methods.
  • Ability and desire to multitask and function in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Interpersonal skills that promote a collaborative and productive lab environment.
  • Effective and efficient written and oral communication skills.

Competencies:

  • Commitment to integrity and always doing what’s right.
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously. Can produce top-quality work with little oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
