Hermeus is a startup developing hypersonic aircraft to radically accelerate air travel. At Mach 5, more than twice the speed of the supersonic Concorde, passengers will be able to cross the Atlantic in 90 minutes. On the path to hypersonic passenger aircraft, Hermeus is partnering with government agencies including the US Air Force and NASA to develop a series of autonomous aircraft that derisk the technology and solve urgent national security challenges. These products provide the data and confidence necessary to certify, produce, operate, and maintain safe and comfortable commercial aircraft. Hypersonic aircraft have the potential to create trillions of dollars of new global economic growth per year, unlocking significant resources that can be utilized to solve the world’s greatest problems.
We are seeking a talented engineer to report directly to the Manager of RF Team. The candidate will be a hands-on and experienced RF Test and integration. You will lead efforts to develop laboratory and field test systems, collaborate with subject matter experts to develop highly efficient integration and test processes, and own the integration of the subsystems into our aircrafts.
About the Role:
- The individuals will work with RF/Microwave hardware and will utilize common RF test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, VNA, and signal generators. Therefore, individuals must understand how to handle RF components, such as couplers, waveguides, adapters, etc., and be familiar with common RF measurements for digital communications radios to produce accurate and valid results. They must also ensure test racks are calibrated properly. The individuals must be cognizant of how to handle space-grade hardware.
- Lead development, integration, and ongoing operations of ground systems antenna and terminal test systems, both laboratory and fielded.
- The system under test includes but not limited to Telemetry link in L, S, and C band, GPS, RADAR Altimeter, Flight Termination Systems, ADS-B, and custom radios.
- Own the implementation and integration of the RF subsystems into our aircraft.
- Work closely with other teams to troubleshoot issues, perform data driven analysis of results, and make recommendations for improvements and corrective actions.
- Engage with suppliers to evaluate their test and validation results versus expected product performance and provide proactive feedback on potential improvements.
- Work with System Engineers and various engineering disciplines to ensure accuracy of test products and determine if outputs meet project/customer requirements.
- Create effective and focused testing plans, strategies, procedures and reports.Conduct testing on various RF based systems including radios, satellite communications equipment, and microwave systems.
- Create or provide input for technical documentation including Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), system requirements and integration documents (such as Interface Control Documents).
- Define and implement automation processes to ensure accuracy and repeatability. Utilize Python and associated packages to support test automation: Pandas, PySNMP, PyVISA, and SCPI
- Analyzing and mitigating potential self-interference and other system interference issues.
- Execute prescribed HALT, ALT, and HASS campaigns.
About You:
- Experience operating and configuring RF test instrumentation to perform complex unit and system tests.
- Experience automating complex tests using software.
- Experience developing test plans, procedures, and reports.
- Experience developing system design documents.
- Experience developing high-level hardware architectural designs.
- Experience establishing test environments & tracking system/subsystem issues.
- Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Desgree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering, or another related technical field.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or a STEM discipline and 5+ years of professional experience in test system development, system administration, DevOps, software or hardware development
- Have knowledge of RF systems, propagation, antenna design, or signal processing.
- Have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and have demonstrated success while working within a team environment.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time as needed.
- Comfortable using RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, waveform generators, oscilloscopes, and signal analyzers
- Strong verbal, and written communication skills
- Exceptional organization and time management skills with an eye toward process improvement
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Be a team player working with a diverse group of teammembers
- 7+ years of experience in test system development, system administration, DevOps, software or hardware development in lieu of a degree.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with long range communication, both terrestrial and SATCOM
- Have working knowledge of RF theory, and experience developing RF link budgets.
- Have knowledge of and experience with configuration of RF parameters and how changing each parameter affects link performance.
We encourage you to apply even if you have skillsets and experience outside of our current needs as we're always open to connect and discuss future opportunities.
