The opportunity:
Flexport is looking to hire an Regional Financial Controller. The candidate hired for this role will be based in Hong Kong. This is a crucial role that will directly oversee the Accounting, Tax, and Treasury functions and provide local jurisdictional guidance for the Financial Operations functions of the company’s Asia Pacific (“APAC”) region (Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and South Korea) in a high growth, fast-paced, pre-IPO environment.
You will:
- Oversee the APAC region month-end close process, statutory filings, tax filings, statutory audits and assist with consolidated audit requests.
- Lead treasury matters across all legal entities within APAC, in alignment with corporate treasury policy, guidelines and initiatives.
- Support global the payroll team with in-region payroll filings, external third-party communication and ad-hoc requests.
- Provide local guidance of Financial Operations within Shenzhen and Hong Kong, in alignment with centrally driven policies, procedures, succession planning, and initiatives.
- Supervise, develop, mentor, and effectively continue the buildout of your teams in order to support growth.
- Support local leadership and executives partnering with strategic finance.
- Lead APAC geographic expansion initiatives associated with areas of responsibility.
- Lead global finance and accounting projects in the region and actively participate in other regional and company projects as necessary to improve business processes and efficiencies..
- Communicate and explain accounting, finance operations, and tax issues to global finance leadership.
You should have:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA or equivalent
- 15+ years experience in accounting, with a mix of publicly-listed or high-growth start-up company and public accounting firm is highly desired.
- 10+ years of people management experience.
- Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in accounting, finance, tax, finance, and statutory compliance throughout APAC.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP technical accounting and business matters.
- Experience with international entities, multi-currency and consolidation.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
- Experience working cross-functionally with key stakeholders.
- Strong technical skills - Excel, ERP systems, analytical and extreme attention to detail.
- Experience with NetSuite is a plus.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, fast growing company where adaptability is critical.
- Ability to speak English fluently.
