The Opportunity

The Project Manager, Safety & Compliance (Project Manager) is responsible for ensuring that CEO  promotes a safe working environment by drafting and maintaining safety related policies and procedures and working with Central and Program teams to maintain safe working conditions in offices and on crews,

The Project Manager will report directly to the Director of Compliance and collaborate closely with the Financial Risk Management, Facilities, Program, and Social Enterprise Support (SES) teams. This position will ensure that current practices within the organization follow applicable safety guidelines and are being implemented consistently org-wide. This position will collaborate closely with SES and Program teams on the ground, as well as with Financial Risk Management to follow internal policies and ensure prompt and accurate reporting from staff.

CEO's Staff Vaccination Policy

CEO has implemented an org-wide vaccination requirement that requires all new staff to be fully vaccinated before their first day of work. We have made this decision for the safety of our participants and employees and to enhance our ability to continue to provide the vital services we offer to our participants. As part of the onboarding process, new hires will be asked to submit proof of vaccination status prior to their first day of employment.

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people with recent criminal convictions. Across the United States, over 6,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 25,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996. Since 2009, CEO has gained support to expand its programs through government, nonprofit, and private organizations including the Federal Social Innovation Fund, the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, Robin Hood Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to grow to serve 9,000 participants annually.

Who You Are

  • You have experience working with OSHA guidelines
  • You have experience in implementing a variety of occupational health and safety programs
  • You have the ability to conduct evaluations and evaluate cost and risk factors
  • You have excellent presentation skills/ written and verbal communication skills
  • You have the ability to apply a variety of laws, rules and regulations
  • You have the ability to work well in a fast-paced, high volume environment
  • You have excellent project management skills
  • You have the ability and willingness to travel to all CEO sites on a regular basis (30-35%) 
  • You have the ability to work well with internal and external partners
  • You have the ability to work well with all CEO staff members and participants
  • You have familiarity with incident reporting technology and workflows
  • You have the ability to lead incident investigations
  • You have the ability to interpret a variety of laws, rules and regulations

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Policy Development and Project Management

  • Project manage Injury and Illness Prevention Program - The Project Manager will be the IIPP Administrator and will be responsible for:
    • IIPP Implementation (beginning in CA), with support from the Social Enterprise Support team
    • Reviewing and revising IIPP annually and set safety priorities annually
  • Knowledge Management of CEO Health and Safety Practices:
    • Job Hazard Analysis Management (JHA) including storing and reviewing JHAs, identifying and addressing risks 
    • Ensuring up-to-date policies and best practices are drafted, approved, and made available to all employees
    • Serve as the point of contact for safety related questions
  • Create and maintain training program for office safety liaisons and Safety Coordination Group to use when on site visits

Policy and Program Implementation

  • Collaborate with Social Enterprise Support teams and Program Leadership to implement new policies and procedures:
    • Coordinate Safety trainings on a regular basis
    • Present safety trainings as necessary
    • Collaborate with external vendors & internal stakeholders to prepare training materials 
    • Ensure effective recordkeeping of all safety trainings provided to staff
    • Coordinate with Finance and Program to reduce Workers Compensation (WC) Claims and lost time injuries
  • Compliance & Investigations
    • Collaborate on new Safety Policy development and dissemination with the Legal & Compliance team
    • Visit CEO sites regularly to perform safety checks and works with office liaisons to perform safety checks when EHS Manager is not able to travel to site. Serves as point of contact for any site visits and audits with external parties
    • Ensure that CEO complies with all pertinent OSHA and other state and federal standards
    • Ensure compliance with all incident reporting and investigation programs by collaborating with Legal and Financial Risk Management teams
    • Leads regular safety check ins with all sites to ensure CEO is consistently promoting a safe work environment across all jurisdictions
    • Collaborate with Legal team to ensure Scopes of Work, JHAs, and site visit summaries are shared with relevant stakeholders
    • Participates where required in the resolution of safety issues.

Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborates with Director of Compliance to set yearly safety goals
  • Actively monitors progress toward goals throughout the year and recommends next steps for improvement
  • Collects feedback from all CEO sites and Central teams and implements feedback as necessary
  • Leads regular check-ins with Facilities, Social Enterprise Support, Financial Risk Management, and Legal & Compliance teams to ensure progress towards goals

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 /annually CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
