About Our Client.
We and our Consortium partners are working on a program funded by The Mastercard Foundation. The program is a multi-phase, five-year program to create, support, and nurture 100 multi-sided Gig and Professional Marketplaces (GPMs) in Ethiopia. This program is expected to create opportunities for 1 million highly skilled workers in five years with a focus on women and disadvantaged young people. It will also create entrepreneurship opportunities for 100 entrepreneurs to set up and operate GPMs.

They are VC-backed, a team of 50+ passionate people with offices in the US, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Senegal. Moreover, They are a SaaS Enabled Marketplace with a marketplace created to bridge the labor gap between skilled freelancers and companies in Africa, and with a SaaS which offers software features to marketplace owners. They are essentially strengthening the continent’s presence and competitiveness throughout the global gig economy

About the role....
As a Program Director, you are responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program initiative, including hiring staff, managing the program budget, creating a detailed execution plan, monitoring progress, working with all stakeholders including consortium partners, Mastercard foundation and external stakeholders for a smooth and timely delivery of the program as per the terms and conditions clearly stipulated on the Contract Agreement with the Mastercard Foundation.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Governance
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation of program detailed activity, timeline and deliverables that support program goals in collaboration with consortium partners.
  • Organise the Program structure in terms of reporting, staffing and KPIs (including consortium partners’ specific KPIs and deliverables).
  • Create a bottom up reporting structure to the level of Steering Committee.
  • Periodical progress reporting to the Steering Committee.
  • Monitor program budget and work closely with Finance team in monitoring and reporting.
  • Create a Risk Management Plan and apply it throughout the duration of the program.
  • Oversee and Participate in the creation of  entrepreneurs’ Selection criteria, onboarding guidelines, and monitoring KPIs. 
  • Oversee and Participate in the creation and management of  entrepreneurs’ support and advisory plan and monitor execution.
  • Work closely with Head of Engineering team to plan and support GPM (Gig and Professional Marketplace) rollout.

  • Managing Project Teams, Stakeholder, Communication and Reporting
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with Consortium partners and monitor performance via defined KPIs and deliverables.
  • Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents. 
  • Determine and assess resource needs for additional staff or contractors and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during the project cycle based on budget.
  • Motivate and supervise program team members and partners, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

  • Managing the Program Risk
  • Proactively manage changes in program scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Define program success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle.
  • Track program milestones and deliverables.
  • Conduct project post-mortems throughout each phase and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements. 
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.

  • Managing the Program Conflicts
  • Manage program conflicts based on defined roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder.
  • Utilize emotional intelligence in solving conflicts.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate team member. 
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the program team. 
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical paths.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Social Studies, IT, Management Information Systems or related field.
  • Masters Degree is a plus

Leadership KRAs

  • Performance Management 
  • Manage program team performance e.g. Weekly/monthly continuous performance discussions,  and provision of feedback.
  • Translate strategy into executable plans while motivating your team with clear direction by setting clear goals and KPIs each quarter.

Experience and Personal Attributes

  • At least 3+ years in a executive leadership position. 
  • Prior experience in  Program Management in Impact Projects and Funded Programs.
  • Prior experience in working with public sector and senior government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate high levels of integrity.

  • Decision making.
  • Ability to interpret long term plans, programs and budgets developed at senior management level.
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Business/Financial Acumen, Business Savvy, Innovative.
  • Ability to develop plans, programs, SOPS, and coordination of workflows.
  • Strong leadership skills in the area of organizational change management, time management, analytics, broader business knowledge and managing conflicts. 
  • Excellent Communication skills. 
  • Willingness to develop others' potential within their teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. 
  • People skill to develop and manage a highly diverse team and partners.
  • Agile and resilient and shows interest in continuous personal development.
