GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, organization, and successful sustainability of the MVPN program. The coordinator provides direct peers services, and peer led groups to Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF). Services include outreach, one-on-one peer services, and peer led groups to SMVF to develop trusted relationships built on shared life experiences. The coordinator will recruit, organize, and train MVPN peers to provide direct peer-to-peer services to SMVF. The coordinator will help SMVF assess treatment options and access appropriate services including, but not limited to, mental health professionals who provide military informed care. The coordinator will participate in local and state trainings, meetings, presentations, and other outreach mediums as needed to enhance service provision, promote the MVPN program, and recruit MVPN peers and participants.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE
- Must have either 1) a High School Diploma; OR 2) a High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) issued in accordance with the law of the issuing state. Additionally, must be a veteran of the armed forces or immediate family member.
- Must have at least one (1) year of experience working on one’s own recovery from traumatic brain injury, mental health, and/or substance use issues.
- Must be eligible and successfully become a Certified MVPN through the Texas Veterans Commission within 12 months of employment.
ESSENTIAL TASKS & STANDARDS
- Provide direct peer-to-peer services (or verify that a volunteer is providing direct peer-to-peer services).
- Complete required administrative tasks (or verify that a volunteer is doing so in your place).
- Complete a written Program Implementation Plan that specifies activities for organizing veteran peer-to-peer counseling and services under the terms of the MVPN program.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers in their assigned activities and duties.
- Completion of required documentation in a timely manner.
- Establish and develop appropriate relationships with SMVF of trust, hope, and empowerment by sharing own lived experiences to facilitate achievement of recovery goals.
- Teamwork/Cooperation
- Appropriate use of LifePath Systems equipment and materials.
- Understand and implements trauma-informed care and military-informed care practices.
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Interpersonal communication skills, active listening skills, time management skills, organization skills, team building skills, conflict resolution skills, record keeping skills, and presentation skill are essential for this position.
- Strong professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to empathize with, relate to and effectively partner with individual and team members.
- Knowledge of mental health, substance use, and other issues affecting service members, veterans, and their families (SMVF) and recovery concepts.
- Knowledge of community resources and resources specific to SMVF.
- Must have a willingness to disclose lived experience, where appropriate, for the purpose of empowerment.
- Knowledge, experience, and proficiency in using standard Microsoft Office programs and systems databases.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS
- Must have valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must be able to complete all LifePath Systems training.
- Must be able to provide at least 3 professional or educational references.
BENEFITS
Salary Range: $25,000 per year
Shift Hours: Tuesday through Friday 12pm - 5pm
