Brooke Charter Schools opened as a single middle school in 2002 and has since grown to be a network of three K-8 schools and one high school, serving approximately 2,200 students from Boston and Chelsea. Brooke Roslindale is the network’s original flagship school, and was founded in 2002. The school has a thriving school culture and an exemplary record of student achievement.  Meg Parquette, the school principal, has served in that role for 12 years and has been at Brooke since 2006.  

Overview of the MS Assistant Principal Role

The Brooke Roslindale leadership team is led by the principal and includes a director of operations and four assistant principals (K-2, 3-5, MS ELA, and MS math/science.).  The team is close-knit and works together to ensure a strong and coordinated approach to delivering excellent instruction and a robust and thriving school culture.   Each assistant principal is limited to 10-12 direct reports thereby allowing that assistant principal to attend to the development of each teacher in the department.  

Responsibilities

  • Serves as instructional leader for 6th-8th math/science and 3rd-5th grade science
  • Plans and lead professional development for direct reports (department meetings, data meetings, etc . . . )
  • Conducts frequent and regular in-person observations and follow-up in-person meetings with all direct reports
  • Aligns action to an unwavering belief that our mission is to prepare all students to thrive in and graduate from college
  • Takes and demonstrates responsibility for the achievement of all students 
  • Provides support, development and feedback for Associate Teachers, first year teachers who were formerly Associate Teachers and new to Brooke teachers throughout the year. This could come in the form of observation feedback, professional development sessions and one-on-one support meetings
  • Serves as a member of the leadership team and leads/supports with school wide duties 
  • Works in collaboration with the leadership team to plan and lead whole staff professional development. 
  • Creates and conveys a positive vision for student culture and realizes that vision through leadership and development of staff, community meetings, strong communication, presence, and the power of example.
  • Develops and maintains a positive staff culture on the math/science team based on a shared commitment to the school’s mission and a belief in their own power to contribute to it.
  • Supports and upholds strong school policies that lead to a consistent, fair, and effective school culture. 
  • Hires for open positions in conjunction with principal 

 

Note: This is a year round position that will begin on Monday, June 19th, 2023. 

  • 2023 summer vacation will be Monday, June 26th-Friday July 14th.

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of lead teaching experience 
  • Experience working with and leading middle school students
  • A history of strong classroom leadership 
  • A history of strong instruction, curriculum planning and data driven instruction
  • 3s and 4s on the majority of teacher rubric items related to growth mindset, leadership and relationships and responsibility to team (internal candidates only)
  • Experience with leadership (mentoring, leading a working group, leading PD)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Administrative license is not required.

Compensation

  • Starts at $106,000 for candidates meeting minimum requirements
