Working as a Mechanical Engineer at SPT Labtech Covina provides you with the opportunity to see your ideas come to life. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design mechanical and electro-mechanical components, systems, and products for life science automation lab equipment.
  • Develops test methods and perform testing in a laboratory environment through the entire life cycle of the product.
  • Generates detailed fabrication drawings utilizing GD&T and mechanical tolerance analysis.
  • Develops requirements, leads design reviews, performance of verification and validation, production transfer and related documentation.
  • Support all aspects of documentation. Verification Plans and Reports; and design control through ECN, and Windchill.
  • Works as a part of cross-functional project teams including EE, SW, QA, ME, OE, ID, HF, Manufacturing and Field Service.
  • Ensures regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance such as CE/UL etc for all project work.
  • Facilitate technical problem solving and troubleshooting through proposed experimentation and alternative designs/approach.
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary team members on project deliverables, including documentation, FMEA's, ESHR, verification/validation protocols, and production release of new designs
  • Participating in hands-on activities including prototyping, and engineering tests.
  • Contributing to design reviews and developing consensus on design decisions
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of project schedules and budget in coordination with Project Management
  • Communicate status and updates for projects – keep Project Managers informed of project progress and potential roadblocks.
  • Support projects from initiation through delivery
  • Develop and document design history files per design control requirements.
  • Generate models/drawings for engineering changes and Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Follow engineering change request (ECR) process when necessary.
  • Rapidly iterate on manufacturing processes and development testing in a fast-paced environment
  • Be responsible for project delivery timeline from early design through production, launch, and recovery.

Requirements

The essentials:

  • Must be highly organized, self-motivated, able to balance multiple priorities and projects, flexible, able to follow through, and can work under pressure with associated deadlines.
  • Design with customer, service, manufacturability, and cost in mind
  • Understands overall manufacturing processes and has experience to proactively identify constraints and improvement opportunities.
  • Understand the key concepts of lean manufacturing and ISO 9001 section 8.3 and CE regulatory requirements to the development of lab equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications; Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills (written/verbal), must be able to clearly communicate technical content to peers and management, support conclusions and recommendations with calculations, test data, industry literature, etc.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and ability to network in an effective and professional manner with external companies and within the internal organization.
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills. Must be able to quickly analyze, troubleshoot, and determine root cause of issues.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods of thermoplastic (machined and injection molded), cast metal, and machined parts.
  • Must possess fundamental, theoretical and applied knowledge related to general Mechanical Engineering.
  • EMC design experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD. Creo or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Knowledge of design for fabrication methods including machining, casting, injection molding, and rapid prototype.
  • Proven ability to develop solutions for problems that require the regular use of creativity.
  • Have project managing experience.
  • Create comprehensive PPT or illustration for senior management or customer.
  • Ability to travel (<15%)
