About the Role

We are hiring a Marketing Lead to help us build our marketing foundation. As the go-to-market voice on our team, you will shape our bottom-up approach to growth and drive community adoption. You will also generate customer insights to inform our marketing strategy. This role is an integral part of OtterTune's leadership team and will report directly to the CEO.

Who We Are

At OtterTune, we make database optimization simple. Our main offering is a cloud service that uses machine learning (ML) to automate the difficult process of database performance tuning. Based on cutting-edge database and ML research at Carnegie Mellon University, OtterTune analyzes a customer's database activity and learns the best configuration for it, thereby boosting database performance and lowering costs. OtterTune's recommendations frequently outperform those of experienced database administrators.

You Will

  • Develop growth led marketing strategy, sales enablement, and launch plans for new releases, including campaigns, messaging, content. Unusual / off-beat ideas are a plus.
  • Contribute to the go-to-market strategy and oversee GTM launch processes for new product/feature launches, and deliver differentiated messaging and product positioning.
  • Ability to integrate a bottom-up growth approach with community-focused marketing strategies.
  • Develop customer segmentation – define and identify target segments and markets, their needs and purchase decision process, develop value proposition and sales mix strategy for each segment.
  • Manage public perception of messaging for our website.
  • Conduct competitive analysis – maintain a competitive fact base including competitor size, successes, product offerings, positioning, price structure, etc. to determine product market fit. Analyze data to drive actionable insights to the marketing roadmap.
  • Prepare quarterly marketing team budgets and KPIs.

You Might be a Fit for the Role if You Have

  • BA/BS degree required or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in community-focused and/or product led marketing.
  • Working knowledge of marketing software tools, including (but not limited to) SalesForce, Ortto, MixPanel, Segment, Google Analytics.
  • Familiarity or experience in database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL), dev-op tools, or similar.
  • 3+ years analyzing SaaS products, customers and market dynamics.
  • Understanding of PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon RDS, or Amazon Aurora is a plus.
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment where the requirements of the position are malleable.
  • Excellent storytelling and ability to engage with developer / tech-savvy audiences.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves to get things done. Early-stage startup experience is a plus.
