Its members are well-versed in how the Group Black business operates, with the ability to develop legal strategy and objectives. You will work on a diverse range of legal issues and projects related to Group Black’s core business offerings, while making an immediate impact on the business goals and objectives. 

Working with our General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer, our newly created Legal Executive Assistant position is the perfect opportunity for someone that enjoys having a key role in the day-to-day operations and goals of the legal department. 

The Role: 

Our Legal Executive Assistant role is multifaceted and requires the skill sets needed for both an EA and Legal Operations specialist. As the right hand to our General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer, the Legal EA plays an integral part in the operations of the Legal department at Group Black. They will assist with general corporate matters for the company and our subsidiaries. This includes support of all major processes related to the Board of Directors, research assignments, commercial contracting processes, and other administrative and operational functions. This position requires an energetic, highly- motivated, and committed team player who will maximize and develop efficient processes and policies to help manage outside counsel spend and streamline GB’s internal contract workflow. 

Legal EA Day-to-Day:

  • Act as a scheduling liaison for the GC & CLO by maintaining and managing calendars, paying close attention to prioritizing their time most effectively
  • Provide meeting support through scheduling and preparation, taking notes, setting up calls/videos, and providing follow-up and action items after meetings
  • Execute day-to-day administrative tasks, including general organization, booking travel and speaking engagements, processing expenses, and updating contacts
  • Assist with general corporate matters for the company and our subsidiaries, including support of all major processes related to the Board of Directors, research assignments, commercial contracting processes, and other administrative and operational functions.
  • Identify and implement legal department tools (such as a contract management system, board portal, and whistleblower hotline) to streamline new or existing practices, as well as manage the design, rollout, and training for new systems.
  • Assist with the development and enforcement of processes and policies to help scale the department’s service footprint
  • Act as a liaison on behalf of the CLO, collaborating cross-functionally with the sales, people, finance, and accounting teams.

Key  Projects: 

  • Our EAs work independently, manage multiple tasks and projects with competing priorities and deadlines, screen and prioritize communications from external and internal sources. You will play an integral role in the culture and team environment. 
  • Design and maintain a legal knowledge base/intranet experience that makes sharing and finding information and best practices easy - this includes creating content, gathering feedback and updating documents as new processes are introduced
  • Fun company events and celebrations with a focus on inclusion and collaboration across all levels of the organization

What you bring to the team:

  • 3+ years experience in a legal setting, a Paralegal certificate a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in an administrative role, at least one of which supporting a C-level executive (experience at fast-growing startup a plus) 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional-level experience
  • Experience with legal software and contracts
  • Ability to engage with senior executives, directors, and external partners in a professional manner
  • A keen sense for organization and project management
  • Excellent follow-up and follow-through with the assertiveness and confidence to stay on top of and anticipate competing and changing priorities
  • Experience managing complex professional and personal calendars 
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Professional communicator, both written and verbal 
  • Strong passion for helping others
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and other collaboration tools
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion

At Group Black, we believe in leveraging our hiring process as a way to support transparency. The annual base salary band for this opportunity is $90,000-$110,000. Our job offer compensation philosophy, which impacts actual compensation, is based on a number of important factors including, but not limited to, internal and market equity, financial budgets, and the individual’s skills, qualifications, experience, and education. Published annual base salary bands do not include individual variable compensation opportunities, such as annual merit increases, bonus eligibility, commission, or equity incentives.
