GoCardless is hiring an

Internal Communications Specialist

London, United Kingdom

About us

Here at GoCardless, we’re building the world’s bank payment network. Bringing simple and secure direct bank payment solutions for people and businesses everywhere, as well as making open banking more accessible. GoCardless is used by 75,000+ organisations and counting, processing more than $30 billion of payments across 30 countries.

We’re an award-winning London based fintech, with additional offices in Riga, Paris, Melbourne and New York.

About the team

Internal Communications & Culture exists to:

  • Drive alignment to our vision & strategy, so every GeeCee has a clear understanding of our priorities, why they’re important, and how their work impacts GoCardless’ success
  • Build trust and connection, so GeeCees are engaged as true advocates of the business; feel they have a clear voice, are listened to; and continue to deliver outstanding work through periods of transformational change
  • Foster and scale our fantastic culture, so GoCardless is an irresistible place to work, with a strong sense of belonging.

The role

  • Help lead the day to day planning and output of the Internal Comms function; this includes ensuring we execute ‘priority’ projects, while working alongside others in the team to keep the momentum with our ‘drumbeat’ of regular communications to the business
  • Typically be the internal comms lead on larger, transformational projects across the business; recent examples have included launching and embedding a new operating model, and acquisition of an external business in a new location
  • Contribute to the overall internal communications plan and approach, ensuring what we do is impactful, and positively contributes to the growth and success of GoCardless
  • Devise and execute communication plans (for example, to roll out our engagement survey, fundraise news, or celebrate the launch of a new product) which deliver clear, measurable outcomes
  • Ensure company-wide and location-specific messaging is clear, consistent and delivered through the most relevant and impactful channel(s)
  • Co-manage our communications channels, including our intranet, Slack, and email tool
  • Co-organise and successfully deliver ‘GC Live’, our annual in-person company event
  • Build connections to become a trusted adviser to stakeholders around the business, to help them achieve their communications goals; additionally, support and upskill other members of the team
  • Run and measure regular listening sessions with employees from all of our locations, to help inform our work and identify opportunities for improvement and impact.

Desired skills

There’s endless opportunity to have an impact in this role. The team sits at the heart of GoCardless, helping to curate, contextualise, and build a shared understanding of the business’ priorities, and the progress we’re making towards our vision. We distribute engaging company news and information to the right audiences, at the right time, via the most relevant channels. As we scale, and pick up the pace against the huge opportunity ahead of us, it’s fair to say the role will be a demanding (but very fulfilling) one, so you should have demonstrable prior experience in internal communications at a fast-paced organisation where you’ve been able to prioritise effectively to deliver communications of a consistently high standard. You should be proactive, ultimately keeping your ‘finger on the pulse’ of the business to identify opportunities for internal comms to strengthen execution against our mission.

Specifically:

  • Experience in a busy internal communications team/function
  • Ability to originate and execute strategic internal communications plans; tactically deliver them; and measure results
  • Experience taking the lead on internal communications aligned to various business transformation projects, with involvement ‘end to end’
  • Confidently build relationships with stakeholders (at all levels), and other employees, so they trust us as experts to help craft and share their messages
  • Exceptional writing ability; you’re unphased by jargon and can easily transform complexity into something compelling and easy to understand, all in our authoritative and friendly tone of voice
  • An omnichannel mindset; you know how to get the very best out of various channels & platforms — from straightforward emails through to Slack, Zoom, face to face, intranet and more; you’re keen to explore new technologies that enhance what we do
  • You excel at - and are unphased by - being ‘hands on’ to get things done, often having to prioritise multiple tasks at once. As a small team, we all chip in to deliver collective results
  • Ideally, experience planning and executing large face to face events.

(some of) The good stuff

  • Wellbeing - stay healthy with dedicated support and medical cover
  • Work away scheme - gives you the option to work away from your country of residence for up to 90 days in any 12 month period.
  • Adaptive Working - allows you to work flexibly, around your lifestyle
  • Equity - all permanently employed GCs get equity to help you make a valuable contribution
  • Parental leave - to suit everyone embarking on life's great adventure
  • Learning Budget - lead your own development with an annual learning budget
  • Time off - generous holiday allowance, + 3 annual volunteer days, + 4 annual business-wide wellness days (‘GC Fridays’)
