The role

We’re looking for a dedicated individual to take on the responsibility for the core of what GoCardless does: Making sure our merchants get their money on time, every time.

Reporting into the VP, Banking Operations you will be responsible for our Payment Operations. You will be managing our global payment processing and be responsible for making sure that the $30 billion worth of payments we process annually get to our merchants on time, every time. This includes managing the day-to-day running of our Payment Operations team, formulating our ongoing payment operations strategy and driving efficacy as our payment volumes continue to scale and our product offering become increasingly sophisticated. You will be responsible for a high performing team with a solid track record . You will have the support of dedicated Payments Specialists dedicated to process improvements and tooling as well as a Controls Specialist.

  •  Lead a team of high performing Payment Operations Analysts, Payments Specialists and a dedicated Controls Specialists.

  • Ensure the team can process across multiple time zones to meet our merchants’ needs

Operational Performance & Optimisation

  • Ensure that Payment Operations maintain high performance levels and always process and reconcile payments on time, every time.
  • Scale our payment operations capacity through automation, not headcount
  • Maintain laser sharp focus on continuous process improvement and automation
  • Drive E2E visibility of our payments processes in order to make informed decisions about where to optimise and how to improve Straight Through Processing (STP) rates
  • Work in close collaboration with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Operations Managers and other stakeholders across the business to prioritise projects and improvements incl. tooling
  • Ensure that we can handle new products seamlessly from a processing perspective and that a solid operating model is been designed

Strategy & Communication

  • Ensure that we have a well defined and ambitious strategy for Payment Operations that fully aligns and enables our company strategy
  • Ensure that the Payment Operations strategy is well understood by everyone especially Product Development
  • Strengthen Payment Operations’ profile internally. Be the champion for your area and ensure that Payment Operations work is understood and appreciated across the organisation

Compliance & Controls

  • Work closely with Risk and Regulatory Compliance as ‘first line of defence’ in ensuring that risk is managed through adequate and efficient controls. The goal is not more but better controls.

What excites us

  • You are an excellent people manager with min. 5 years experience managing and developing operational teams
  • You are a solid operations manager who understand what it takes to run an operation that never misses a beat
  • You have a payments background and a solid understanding of payments reconciliation and the payments infrastructure 
  • You know what it takes to run an operations team in a scale-up/fast-growing environment and how to deal well with ambiguity and change
  • You have experience with formulating payment operations strategies. You see the bigger picture and your goal is to develop a best in class operation.
  • You have a track record of scaling and optimising processes through automation. You have a good technical understanding and are able to work with Engineers and Product Managers to drive improvements
  • You know what strong operational performance and KPI reporting looks like. This means you make data-driven decisions and understand the balance between business, system and operational requirements
  • You understand what it takes to efficiently manage a “first line of defence” function from a regulatory and audit perspective. This includes improving and implementing robust control frameworks. Experience with safeguarding of funds is a plus 
  • You have previously worked with external vendors such as banks and fintechs - domestically and internationally
  • You have a hands-on approach and are not afraid of getting involved in the details when required
  • You are ok with supporting the team outside regular working hours and being on-call when required to make sure we always pay our merchants on time, every time.

Salary range: 5,175 - €5,450
