Deep Science Ventures is hiring a

Head of Marketing

London, United Kingdom
Full-Time

We’re redefining how best-in-class science companies are created. DSV already has an established portfolio of 35 companies and rapidly growing venture creation activity across our Agriculture, Climate, Computation and Pharma sectors, as well as a new, pioneering PhD programme.

Over the last two years, we have built a strong platform focused on marketing to our three stakeholder types: Founders, Partners and Investors (who invest in our portfolio companies). Having successfully repositioned and rebranded, our brand platform is strong, with consistent branding and messaging across the company, and high external brand awareness. Historically our marketing has largely been focused on short-term objectives, e.g. launching a new partnership or recruiting for specific founder roles. To assist with this we have established content marketing systems, which are being decentralised across the team.

The future of marketing at Deep Science Ventures is long-term brand building, to establish DSV as the best-in-class deep tech venture creator and the individuals within the team, including yourself, as leaders within early-stage venture. In true DSV form, identifying and delivering the optimal route to get us there will be up to you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop long-term marketing strategy: To establish DSV as the best-in-class deep tech venture creator. Deep Science Ventures prides itself on creating ventures to deliver optimal solutions to societal problems, without bias to the technical approach. Our partners and founders highly value the deep technical competence within the team. How can we establish this as a widely held perception of DSV?
  • Campaign creation: Work across the team to manage the delivery of Founder-hiring campaigns, including the creation and distribution of Partnership press releases, articles and webinars, with the aim of rapidly recruiting world-class Founders. Assist the portfolio in maximising awareness of funding/technical milestones through content creation and establishing/leveraging relationships with the press.
  • Create compelling content: Every company we create takes 12-18 months, based on months of first-principles thinking, market research and systemic analysis of technological and commercial viability. How can we leverage this information into insightful content and thought leadership across areas such as Climate, Cancer, Biodiversity and more? Can you expand our existing content offering into new mediums and channels?
  • Grow our following: Maintain and grow our following on social media (Twitter and LinkedIn) and through our monthly newsletter.
  • Portfolio branding and positioning: Work with founders pre-incorporation to assist them with positioning and crafting a compelling narrative for their future company. Working closely with a freelance design team, draw insights from portfolio company technologies or markets to create visual assets, including a deck and website (using pre-existing templates that have already been created at DSV).
  • Measure the effectiveness of campaigns and improve systems: Use of systems including Google Analytics, UTMs, Hubspot and Workable (our hiring CRM), to help measure the effectiveness of specific content and channels. Use insights from this process to iteratively improve campaign development. Continuous learning to ensure best-practice and improve marketing attribution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with marketing stakeholders, including Partner comms teams and other external contacts such as journalists and influencers. Identify opportunities for collaboration with other organisations.

Requirements

The role requires a significant breadth of insight and an interest in wide realms of science and industry, with the ability to quickly digest, simplify and communicate complex concepts. You should be excited about communicating cutting-edge science.

We're looking for:

  • Deep experience in marketing, with a track record of having built or scaled a well-known brand;
  • Fascination with the cutting edge of science and the people who are delivering it, whether that’s in Climate, Agriculture, Pharma or Computation;
  • Demonstrable interest in early-stage deep tech ventures with an intimate understanding of how they operate, having worked within or with them;
  • Proven content creator, with a knack for narrative, and the skillset for delivery, across multiple forms and channels;
  • Good knowledge of best practice for marketing systems and processes, as it relates to, content creation, distribution and attribution;
  • Self-starter, capable of creating something from nothing and galvanizing the wider team to execute collaboratively on an idea;
  • Network-driven, enjoys supporting and guiding others through collaborative teamwork.

Personality: More than anything we’re looking for you to bring a vision of how you would drive the development of the marketing function, the current constraints and how to overcome them, an eye for opportunity and the founder-type mindset to bring together the right people to make it happen.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity-incentivisation;
  • Flexible working environment (remote or hybrid) and generous holiday allowance;
  • Rapid personal development and massive learning curve;
  • Working with some of the most ambitious and impact-driven individuals you’ll ever find;
  • Tailored personal and leadership development plan and opportunity to progress to Director-level;
  • Help build the next generation of deep tech ventures.
