Head of Growth Marketing

Want to make an impact? Let’s talk. We’re looking for an experienced growth marketing professional to help lead the customer acquisition efforts at Tern.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing plans and driving results across all marketing channels (paid search, paid social, referrals, SEO, App Store Optimization, influencers, content, you name it) with a focus on growth or performance marketing. In addition to acquiring and retaining customers you’ll be setting strategy for how we can use our success to date as a catalyst for accelerated growth - you will have the chance to make your mark on Tern’s brand, and you will be on the front edge of our expansion into new markets and products. This role requires the ability to understand drivers on both B2B and B2C side of the business, thinking about what drives customers in each channel.

Tern is changing the way consumers return items by bringing the drop off location to their doorstep. Backed by some of the same investors that invested in Greenhouse, Rollbar, & Whoop, we are now growing our team to scale our product while also building tools in logistics management and strengthening our b2b partnerships. 

There was $761B of merchandise returned in the US in 2021, which was a 77% year over year increase.  In some segments over half of those items never made it back to inventory, resulting in millions of metric tons of CO2 wasted on transportation of goods that ended up in landfills around the world. Here at Tern we are working on rethinking the return experience to make it more convenient, eco-friendly, & efficient. Come help us change commerce.

Your responsibilities

- Be our point person on growth marketing initiatives, working directly with senior leadership to set the direction of our messaging across all channels
- Experiment with new ways of getting Tern in front of customers while doubling down (read: managing budget) on the things that are working
- Drive execution in collaboration with business partners in performance and brand marketing, creative, operations, finance, and product
- Work closely with analytics to measure the effectiveness of paid growth initiatives and devise measurement plans for high-risk, but high-impact marketing programs

You (probably) have...

- 6+ years of marketing experience
- 3+ years of experience in an analytical, data intensive and/or strategic role
- Proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Experience managing, or deep understanding of, digital and offline paid customer acquisition channels with an eye towards measurable targets (marginal CPA, CAC, LTV, etc)
- Comfort and experience with quantitative marketing analytics, budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and test-and-learn methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to leverage analytics to understand performance, optimize campaigns, drive decision-making, and measure outcomes
- Positive, upbeat attitude
- Relentless focus on improvement
