The Hair and Makeup Stylist is responsible for preparing models to style guide standards for photoshoots. They will ensure that all hair and makeup is consistent with the Wantable standards and that productivity goals are met. The ideal candidate has the ability to understand how brand identity and art direction fuse with their own point of view. The Hair and Makeup Stylist will ensure that all beauty requirements are consistently being met throughout the day and over the life of the projects.
Responsibilities
- Execute hair and makeup in an efficient manner to consistently meet goals, while staying on brand and enhancing and elevating our look
- Build and maintain beauty brand guidelines. Create written documentation, including visual references if necessary, on how specific hair and makeup is done so it can be included in brand standards such as style guides. In addition, be able to train fellow team members to those specific standards.
- Research and stay up to date with seasonal beauty trends
- Execute hair and makeup for a wide variety of models
- Style various types, textures and lengths of hair. Able to trim or shave hair as needed
- Maintain strict standards of quality control, staying up-to-date with the art direction and brand standards
- Maintains a consistent quality standard and remain fully engaged (attention to detail, following beauty standards, predictive improvement) on repetitive projects
- Creates a comfortable environment with the models and stylists to allow the model to be primed in a manner that constantly improves quality and speed of the shoot
- Responsible for the stock inventory, organization and cleanliness of the hair and makeup station and on-set zone. This includes managing the repair and purchase of the tools of the trade.
- Maintain a strict sanitary work ethic in accordance with Health and safety protocols. Materials need to be upheld to the highest levels of sanitization standards.
- Assists in administrative duties and product preparation and assists Stylist and Merchandise team during hours and days when a model is not on set.
Goals
- Elevate Wantable Brand aesthetic by enhancing the look of our models and product with the highest standard and class in makeup and hair styling.
- Maximize efficiencies in workflow, budget and process by creating a weekly HMU schedule that supports our production schedule
- Define our brand guidelines by using up-to-date industry tools, HMU techniques and best practices in hair and makeup
- Suggest specific model HMU improvements in pre-production meetings
- Prepare hindsights and analyze work outlining improvements for future projects
- Exceed daily production targets
Outcomes
- HMU room: Maintain supplies within budget, decrease spend by 20% after first year
- On Set: 80 skus per day. Increase production by 15% after first 6-9 months
- Off Set: Create and maintain HMU style guide. Lead a quarterly hindsight of models - look/ makeup/ hair execution
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion, Makeup or equivalent education and experience
- Cosmetology/Esthetician license, or Certified Makeup Artist License
- 3+ years of experience in working on a photography set as a Hair and Makeup artist
- Design Skills and knowledge to fit aesthetic in to the broader brand image
- Knowledge of eCommerce photography and editorial session
- Experience and competent working with all skin tones
- Working knowledge of Apple operating systems
- Strong fashion and trend knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good time management within a busy and pressured environment
- E-commerce and editorial session experience is a must
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, specifically Word and Excel. Within Excel, the candidate should be able at a minimum to execute a search, sort a list by applying multiple filter settings, populate a new column of data in an existing spreadsheet, and manage file conversions among CSV and text-based files to Excel.
- Must have an excellent ability to problem solve and creatively respond to set needs.
- Experience with software communication, system networking, Mac OS script writing, image file sharing and redundancy efficiencies, and any API experience

- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring seamless execution through stellar organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to details with ability to focus on a repetitive task and consistently accurate entry of data.

- Demonstrated planning skills and the ability to prioritize using information around due dates, clients, internal resource skill sets, and when to escalate for assistance and awareness.
- Ability to work both independently and within a changing team.
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedules.
- Experience with ShotFlow
