One Acre Fund works to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. In Ethiopia, we engage farmers in agroforestry and community-based seed multiplication to increase farmers' incomes and improving farming systems. Engaging with local actors at every step but bringing ideas from outside, we are making rural farming more market-friendly and environmentally sustainable. Our Ethiopian partner farmers have planted more than 45 million trees, produced over 2000 MT of improved teff seed and improved the futures of hundreds of thousands of their neighbors. In Ethiopia alone, our permanent team numbers over 150 with nearly 1000 rural seasonal staff supporting them. Our Ethiopia headquarters are in Addis Ababa and we have a large program office Bahir Dar, plus several smaller field offices.

About the Role

We are looking for a Business Operations Specialist within the program's Systems Department, who will manage critical systems needed to achieve our scale targets. You will report directly to the Systems Program Associate and will manage a portfolio of projects, including data collection and analytics, program KPIs, large print orders and office IT support. You will directly manage a growing team of staff from three sections.

Responsibilities

Build data systems and processes

  • Design and implement improved data systems, including field KPIs, field data reconciliation.
  • Enable smooth delivery of tree growing inputs by maintaining critical data rosters for personnel, partners, customers, inputs, and logistics.
  • Build our KPIs and reporting capabilities, giving us better visibility into procurement and logistics SLAs.

Own key business operation projects

  • Manage casual workers to accomplish short-term projects (large print jobs, data entry, etc.).
  • Oversee large print material orders for HQ or field teams, including training materials, marketing sheets, and other materials.
  • Partner with our field team to audit our data and processes, identifying fraud and process issues.

Support and improve the program's IT capabilities and systems

  • Dotted-line management and support of our IT Support Officer, who reports up to Global IT Operations Team.
  • Manage our inventory of IT assets (laptops, tablets, smartphone).
  • Work with Global IT Operations team to assess and implement new systems.

Help build the Systems Department

  • As a key deputy on the Systems team, you'll be a leader in developing and training our junior staff.
  • Advise on Systems department internal processes and best practices.
  • Contribute to the department's yearly objectives and key results.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 2+ years of experience in a data-heavy systems role, for example: data analyst, logistics, or procurement.
  • Experience and advanced skill in data analysis such as Excel or Google Sheets (can build and maintain complex spreadsheets). Knowledge of PowerBI or Stata is a plus.
  • Previously worked with resource planning platforms like SAP or Airtable.
  • Experience in complex project management with cross-team stakeholders.
  • Experience rolling out or implementing new systems. For example, building a new inventory tracking system or data reconciliation process.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Language: English and Amharic required.
