Salary: Framework A (Step 67) Range: $108,343 - $124,442. Salary is commensurate with experience and education level.
ABOUT HIGH TECH HIGH:
Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in
September 2000 as a small public project-based charter school with plans to serve approximately
450 students. HTH has evolved into an integrated network of fourteen charter schools serving
approximately 6,520 students in grades K-12 across four campuses (Point Loma, Clairemont,
North County, and Chula Vista). The HTH organization also includes a comprehensive adult
learning environment including a Teacher Credentialing Program and the High Tech High
Graduate School of Education, offering professional development opportunities serving national
and international educators.
JOB FUNCTION/DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Chief Learning Officer, organize, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate the
services and staff of the site-based English Learner Teachers and ELPAC Site Test Coordinators.
To coordinate and manage the district-wide EL program; Provide instructional
leadership/professional development focused on meeting the needs of the district’s EL
students; Develop and provide leadership to the district’s implementation of the EL Master Plan;
Oversee the administration of the Initial ELPAC and Summative ELPAC test at the sites;
Collaborate with sites to nurture and sustain English Language Advisory Committees (ELAC);
Build leadership capacity to support the specific needs of ELs, provide oversight to the EL
program evaluation and to ensure effective implementation of the district’s instructional
initiatives to support the district’s goal of providing a high-quality education for all students with
a specific focus on ELs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Review and support the selection of instructional materials and resources for ELs
● Research effective program options to pilot/implement on our sites
● Collaborate with administrators, coaches, and site leadership teams to examine data and
practices in support of ELs
● Support classroom teachers in evidence-based instructional strategies which support
language learning in core content classes
● Collaborate with district and site family support staff to create district-wide parent
education workshops pertaining to English Learner tests, programs, and resources
● Collaborate with sites to nurture and sustain English Language Advisory Committees
(ELAC) meeting agendas and structures
● Support ELPAC administration and testing needs
● Oversee the reclassification of EL students
● Prepare and maintain records and reports related to ELs
● Monitor Translation/Interpreter services
● Operate a variety of data software programs for students and programs
KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL SETS:
● Oversee operations of EL staff and services across the schools.
● Plan, organize, control, and direct EL services and activities.
● Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
● Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the EL
program.
● Direct the maintenance of a variety of reports and files related to EL activities.
● Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE AND LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
● A valid Teaching or Services credential is required.
● English Learner Authorization, or CLAD, preferred
● Spanish language fluency, preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The principal office for the Director of EML Education is located on HTH’s Point Loma, San
Diego, California campus. However, the Director of EML Education is expected to travel to
various HTH campus sites (North County, Chula Vista, and Clairemont) as needed.
