About this Job:

The Baltimore Banner is looking for a curious and creative Data Visualization Journalist to join our growing Audience and Experience team. We are looking for an innovative thinker who can wrangle data into stories, charts, and interactive features and experiment with new technologies and trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with newsroom reporters and other data journalists to create compelling data visualizations
  • Execute charts, tables, and maps with tools that utilize D3 or other libraries for creating bespoke interactive visualizations
  • Pitch and execute data analysis articles and projects
  • Help establish best practices with data visualization tools
  • Help train other newsroom members on data visualization tools

 Requirements:

  • At least three years of experience at a news organization
  • Experience translating complex data sets into compelling stories and visualizations
  • Proficiency in tools and languages like Adobe Illustrator, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, D3
  • A solid understanding of data analysis tools such as Python, R, Excel
  • Detail-orientated, inquisitive nature, and devoted to learning and development
  • Teamwork and willingness to collaborate with others
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • A commitment to upholding journalist values and ethics
