Liquibase is hiring a Chief Technical Officer to drive our product forward and help deliver highly valuable, safe, and secure software to our customers by capitalizing on the latest developments in tech such as cloud-friendly and modern technologies. You will be responsible for technical and architectural specifications, creating and maintaining guidelines for code reviews, coding prototypes, and setting complex requirements. 

The ideal candidate has a passion for software development and a proven track record of creating and managing strong product-driven standards. They are excited to lead and influence across multiple levels and multiple functions of our organization to deliver significant product enhancements that solve challenging problems in the database DevOps & CI/CD space. You are an innovative industry visionary and have the opportunity to apply your successful track record of architecting, building, and taking solutions to market. 

While not at present, future responsibilities may include people and budget management. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and maintain the Liquibase technology roadmap, making technically superior architecture decisions that will give our products a competitive advantage for the next decade, aligned with the overall strategy of the company

  • Promote industry-leading practices ensuring a consistent, secure, and reliable software infrastructure

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering Leadership to set up and update a technology vision and plan

  • Provide technical leadership to the Development, QA, Product, and DevOps teams as well as keeping senior management informed on technical strategy and results

  • Be an evangelist and strong communicator of the architectural blueprints and document your designs in clear and structured written specs

  • Own platform technical standards, security standards, secure coding practices, and governance, as well as run architecture reviews to ensure they fit product standards

  • Inspire developers to design superior solutions that meet business and technology needs by
      • Coaching them to code complex solutions and prototypes
      • Proposing improvements to the product release process 
      • Setting a high bar for technical and coding standards 
      • Monitoring code reviews
  • Identify gaps and efficiencies from a technical and functional perspective and collaborate with leaders of execution teams on accelerating tools, solutions, and strategies to define and implement best practices

  • Conduct research and stay up to date on industry trends and best practices in enterprise and SaaS architecture

  • Provide system and technological change management expertise to guide the organization through platform evolution and new technology adoption workflow

  • Keep abreast of new technologies that might be beneficial to the organization and provide direction to shape account team priorities as a result

  • Act as an industry thought leader by understanding where the industry is headed and how our company can help our strategic partners move forward in their business sectors

Must Haves:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible professional roles in full-stack software engineering, designing and modernizing software systems including adherence to security and compliance requirements

  • 5+ years in a software architect role making important architecture and design decisions on a broad range of projects, such as the application of architecture design patterns or leveraging significant open source technologies, taking concepts to operationalized implementations

  • 5+ years working with an Agile development methodology

  • Thorough understanding of CI/CD processes and DevOps concepts. Well-versed in the overall challenges and opportunities impacting databases and the DevOps domain

  • Deep security expertise, specifically as it relates to application, infrastructure, and data security

  • Experience with translating technology from one application to another working through ideation, engineering, implementation, test, and commercialization activities

  • Experience working as a senior influencer, successful in simplifying complex ideas and communicating them clearly and articulately at all levels and audiences

  • Experience working with C-level executives and an ability to quickly establish credibility with senior leadership

  • Ability to identify with the goals of Liquibase clients, and dedicated to delivering on the commitments you and your team make

  • Extensive experience in cloud, specifically AWS, including cloud data processes and architecture

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics. MS degree strongly preferred

Nice to Haves:

  • Architecture experience building, consulting to, or implementing technology for a software product used by developers
  • Broad range of experience with technical and design direction including large-scale database and/or data warehouse technology, ETL, analytics, and public cloud technologies
  • Strong understanding of open source processes, practices, and value. Ideally, having worked at a company that is building value out of a balance of open-source and proprietary features
