Position Summary
The CMO will oversee the planning, development and execution of all marketing strategy and tactics to accelerate Prosper’s growth and achieve other aggressive near and long-term goals. This customer-centric executive will be responsible for developing programs to strengthen customer acquisition, engagement, and the company’s brand as a marketplace leader in peer-to-peer investments, personal loans, home equity line of credit (HELOC), and its recently launched credit card and home equity loan products. This is a comprehensive CMO role, and the complexity will increase as the company continues to grow and to launch new products in consumer borrowing and investing.
The CMO will be a values-driven leader who can guide and develop the present team of 30 as the company grows and delivers new products. The analytically minded CMO will oversee both marketing and product analytics as well as drive the marketing and communications programs.
This role reports to the CEO and is a critical member of the Executive Team. The company’s headquarters are in San Francisco, however, the CMO position may be remote (from within the US).

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all marketing strategy, development, and execution with direct ownership of top funnel metrics.
- Grow volume through marketing strategy and tactics – determine requirements, assess support needs, make the case, and get it done.
- Lead all paid, owned, and earned media channels, as well as internal and external communications for the enterprise.
- Find new growth alternatives by extensive analysis of new and existing customers and marketing performance.
- Manage customer segmentation strategy, develop smart attribution modeling, and drive the development of enhanced (machine learning) customer targeting models through aggressive customer research and analysis.
- Develop multi-year marketing plans, including the strategies, tactics, and resources necessary to achieve those plans.
- Champion customer engagement and retention, and find ways to increase customer lifetime value.
- Drive the development of affiliations and partnerships across banks, lead aggregators, major networks (e.g., Google), and other potential customer acquisition engagements.
- Increase Prosper’s brand awareness, consideration, and preference among target segments.
- Consult on the design, development, and implementation of new products and existing product enhancements.
- Understand and adhere to compliance and regulatory standards for advertising and acquisition strategies in financial markets.
- Develop and coordinate internal and external company communication with investors, board of directors, media outlets, and employees.
- Partner with other company leadership to increase employee engagement and to foster company culture.

Ideal Experience
- 15+ years of marketing experience (primarily B2C focused) with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership, including content, digital, product marketing, and marketing analytics.
- Experience in fintech or financial services strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver growth through an IPO and/or with a public company.
- Demonstrated track record of strong ROI positive customer acquisition through multiple channels, including digital, direct mail, and lead aggregators.
- Demonstrated analytical understanding and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire large teams and the ability to influence across an enterprise.
- Experience presenting to employees and the Board on a regular basis.
- Strong academic credentials with a degree in business, marketing, or a related discipline; Master’s preferred.
Candidate Profile
The CMO is a seasoned professional who brings vision and an entrepreneurial spirit to the role. They must have the curiosity and intellect to understand the context and rationale for existing initiatives and practices, with the experience and drive to find new ways to elevate our performance.
The CMO will be a hands-on leader who is capable of leading marketing in a fast paced, fluid environment, and who is willing to embrace ambiguity and roll-up their sleeves to get the job done.
The ideal candidate will be analytically minded, have strong performance marketing experience, push for unique customer acquisition, be adept at competitor analysis, and continuously strive to improve customer retention. They will be a skilled manager of people and capable of defining best practices in direct and digital marketing, while maintaining industry standards and regulatory compliance. The person will bring strong execution skills with a successful track record.
And finally, the CMO will bring exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, including communicating, networking, and building influence. We want someone who is driven, direct/transparent, smart, and kind, with no patience for grandstanding or politics.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $247k - $368k annually, plus short- and long-term bonus and generous benefits. In determining your salary, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
