The Role

As our Chief Financial Officer and Head of Finance, you will be responsible for monitoring, governing, and evaluating our overall corporate strategy, planning, and analysis with a focus on financial and operating performance. You will have a deep understanding of the interplay between the various levers impacting Philo’s financial performance and will be able to articulate key decision points and financial model trade-offs at the executive level. You will be a primary steward in determining that company resources are most effectively deployed within the business and finding the right balance between growth and sustainability.

This is a hands-on role at a dynamic, high-growth company where your voice will be needed at all levels of Philo’s decision-making. Specific areas of responsibility include overseeing Philo’s functions in accounting, tax, investor relations, insurance, and facilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directs the accounting department with input into technical accounting matters, operational issues, and control structure.
  • The current reporting structure includes both Customer Success and People/HR. This reporting structure may be altered based on the experience of the successful candidate.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Direct the preparation of all financial statements, financial reporting, and tax returns.
  • Continual planning and analysis of Philo’s operations including actively monitoring customer acquisition and retention, creating and maintaining a three-year operating plan, and evaluating financial performance on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee working capital and work with internal and external resources to raise additional capital as required.
  • Help move Philo forward as a thought leader, change agent, and aligner of focus.
  • Establish, maintain, and set tone on financial controls across the organization.
  • Manage relationships with insurance providers, bankers, outside auditors, and tax providers.
  • Liaise with and provide information to outside investors.
  • Analysis and planning around strategic transactions.
  • Evaluate available information on Philo’s market and competitors, and overall economic trends, understanding how they factor into and affect the company’s operating model.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the growth of the finance team and broader company.

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in financial management with increasing responsibility required.
  • Experience in a senior leadership position.
  • MBA or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Applicable industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Public company experience preferred, with private to public experience a strong plus.
  • CPA with solid GAAP and technical accounting knowledge preferred.
  • Being located in or a willingness to relocate to San Francisco or New York preferred, but we are considering remote candidates that commit to spending significant time in those locations.

Status: Full-time
Location: San Francisco, CA preferred
Compensation: Includes annual salary between $300K-$350K depending on experience and location, company stock options, and health benefits
