The Opportunity
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to be a big-picture thinker and creative problem solver who can effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities; a skilled communicator, able to describe complex issues simply, influence outcomes, and articulate MLT’s long-term sustainability model; and a team-builder, people-developer, and advocate for building subordinates’ skills.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO is responsible for planning and coordinating preparation of MLT’s annual operating business plan and budget, in collaborative negotiation with department leaders, and providing recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
Under the guidance and direction of the CEO, the CFO will oversee all accounting functions, led by MLT’s Controller and her team, and the growth of the Financial Planning and Analysis team as MLT continues our journey of unprecedented growth.

Responsibilities:
Provide executive leadership with advice on the financial implications of business activities, including new business opportunities, programmatic budgets, alternative revenue generation methodologies and risk management alternatives.
Oversee budgetary alignment with short and long term strategic financial objectives.
Oversee management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities, including monitoring organizational and contract/grant budgets and related reporting to organizational leadership and philanthropic donors
Recommend strategies for optimizing cash flow and effective deployment of MLT’s financial assets
Oversee all major purchases and procurement activities
Maintain fiscal operations in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit guidelines / best practices
Help engage in risk management, working with appropriate outside advisors (legal counsel, accountants, insurance brokers, etc.)
Team Leadership:
Manage the performance and leverage the strengths of the Accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis team members by clarifying roles and responsibilities, and developing and implementing training opportunities to maximize and reach optimal individual, team, and MLT organizational goals.
Provide leadership by strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels regarding budgets, procurement procedures, accounting policies and other requirements.
Qualifications
The CFO will be an experienced, hands-on strategic thinker with bias toward action who will own responsibility for the Finance function.
The CFO will have the following experience and attributes:
Ability to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance staff, with the demonstrated experience to effectively communicate key data, including building and delivering presentations to senior management, board members, or other stakeholders
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. CPA and/or MBA preferred.
At least five to seven years’ experience as VP, Finance or equivalent, preferably at a nonprofit organization
Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies
Ideally, experience growing a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources (donations and fee-based) and programs / businesses producing high-visibility outcomes.
