Duties and Role:
The incumbent as 'Backup and Recovery Project Portfolio Manager ' is accountable to the SDMs of INF016&INF007 (Infrastructure Backup and Infrastructure Storage Services) throughout the entire service lifecycle, regardless of where the technology components, processes or professional capabilities reside.
- Lead all coordination effort with different stakeholders and backup engineers within the agency in order to understand, collect, document backup and recovery requirements by leading meetings (virtual or in-person) and query, service by service, application by application by ensuring with related engineers for:
- Integrity and consistency of backups and restores with the lowest achievable RPO and RTO times
- All required file systems, system data, operating systems and databases are successfully protected
- Defining backup retention policy by taking into account business needs and application criticality defined in SLAs, legal compliances.
- Generate Gantt charts, presentations when needed/requested
- Performs other duties and support other projects and daily operations as may be required;
- Might need to work on scheduled maintenances, service-affecting activities and contingency work outside of regular business hours or being on-call after working hours on weekends
- Might need to travel and work in SHAPE/Mons, HQ Brussels, BLA, The Hague/Netherlands or any other datacenters if/when required
Requirements
Skill, Knowledge & Experience:
- The candidate must have a currently active NATO SECRET security clearance
- A minimum requirement of a Bachelor's Degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in Engineering or Computer Science and 5 years post-related experience
- Or exceptionally, the lack of a university/college degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate's particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to NCI Agency; that is, at least 8 years extensive and progressive expertise in the duties related to the function of the post
- Sound practical experience in negotiating and communication to be able to efficiently lead discussions between various Application Owners, Service Delivery Managers, Service Area Owners, SMEs and application owners
- Sound practical experience in leading meetings with different stakeholders within the agency and query, collect and document backup requirements service by service
- Sound practical experience in generating Gantt charts, presentations
- Excellent language skills (English) for drafting documentations mainly but not limited to lead the effort of creating, reviewing and updating the implementation of tailored backup strategies for COTS and non-COTS applications
- Should have high-level overview, very good understanding (Sound practical experience will be a big plus) in the strategy, design, support, and best practices of virtualization-level protection and backup solutions for large-scale distributed deployment
- Should have high-level overview, very good understanding (Sound practical experience will be a big plus) for consistent and application-aware backups and restoring of operating systems (Windows, Linux-like, Solaris); databases and applications, including VMware VMs; Microsoft SQL AlwaysON (availability groups, transaction log, point-in-time restore); MySQL; Microsoft SharePoint granular level recovery; Oracle backup via RMAN, Archive log backups, backup and restore scripts; Microsoft Exchange database, DAG, granular level recovery; Backup strategies and Tier-2, Tier-3 and Object backup storages;Off-site or isolated backups along with backup data replication; Sound practical experience in data retention planning and enforcement; Immutable and ransomware protection; Microsoft Exchange database, DAG,
Desirable Experience and Education:
- Sound practical experience in one or more of enterprise data protection products and/or all-in-one or hyperconverged backup appliances such as Veeam, Commvault HyperScale, Netbackup, PowerProtect DP Appliances/Data Manager, Avamar, Networker Rubric, etc. and their integration with VMware vCenter
- Sound practical experience in All-In-One or HyperConverged Data Protection/Backup Appliances
- Sound practical experience in Data Domain backup storage
- ITIL 3 Service Operation or ITIL 4 ITIL Specialist Certification
- PRINCE2 or PMP
- Certification in one or more of backup products
- Certification in ITIL Foundation
- Certification in backup storage or backup solutions such as Veeam, Veritas NetBackup, Networker, PPDM, Rubrik, Cohecity, or other related
- Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements;
- Knowledge of NATO responsibilities and organization.
